It is considered one of the songs that best defines the genre. The song is a response to criticism at the time, which considered bossa nova as music for out-of-tune singers. It was later recorded by several artists, including Herb Alpert, Nara Leão, Ella Fitzgerald and Stan Getz who, in 1963, won the Grammy for Best Jazz Performance by a Soloist or Small Group for the song.
