Instrumental Duet Bassoon,Instrumental Duet,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.590695 Composed by David McKeown. Holiday,Latin,Love,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 5 pages. David McKeown #6233581. Published by David McKeown (A0.590695). Amor, (Portuguese for Love), is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Bassoon, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world. This duet is based on the Brazilian style of Bossa Nova which evolved in Rio de Janeiro during the late 1950s. Bossa in its purest form is lyrical song accompanied by nylon-stringed guitar. The rhythm derives from Samba but is played at around half tempo. The harmony is often complex and influenced by jazz; indeed it was the collaboration between guitarist João Gilberto and American Saxophonist Stan Getz that led to the huge international popularity of Bossa Nova in the 1960s and beyond. If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Rhythms should be lightly articulated, the melody should always flow, and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Amor has a performance time of around three minutes. An English lyric was later written by Gene Lees. The Portuguese title refers to the Corcovado mountain in Rio de Janeiro. Tony Bennett recorded the first popular English cover of Quiet Nights. This version features a root-based chord blocking that we developed from a lead sheet. We added a few left-hand fills just for fun and make it our own and you can play it as-written or modify as you wish! Enjoy!
