Such a good song. Jasper has been in the making since I first started playing music over twenty years ago, it has been one that I can play over and over. Jasper is Self-Published in the book Behind the Night Sky: Finding Run Personal Computer PBR. The playing length of Jasper is a little over 4 minutes. I would recommend this song for beginners, because of its cord simplicity.

Jasper County is a 6 page advanced intermediate level piece in the key of D major. It is from my album 'The Open Road', a collection of 14 of my solo piano compositions. My hometown of Joplin, Missouri is located within two counties in that state, Jasper and Newton. Though I was born in a hospital in Newton County, Jasper County is the one that borders Galena, Kansas, the town in which I spent the first five years of my life. This is a musical whimsy about this place. Other pieces available in this collection are: Bittersweet, Doc Bradley’s Waltz, Edith, Flight of Fancy, Late October, Lullaby, Marble In My Pocket, The Open Road, Prairie Sunset, Skipping Rocks at Shoal Creek, The Storm’s Promise, Sunflowers, and Wheat.

Jasmine Flower

Composed during the Qing dynasty (AD 1616-1912), this is one of the most famous and popular folk songs in China, and one of the earliest to gain popularity overseas; its melody can be heard in Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot opera. The song’s lyrics compare the purity of young love to white Jasmine flowers; an image that is reinforced by the pure and delicate melody.

Perform this arrangement as delicately as possible, almost as if the notes are rain drops gently falling onto a white jasmine flower, or imagine that the guitar itself is made from petals that need to be held gently to avoid breaking them. Also, it can be played slightly more freely than how it is notated, add rubato tastefully throughout to help the music breathe, and allow the open A and D strings to ring as much as possible to create a hypnotic drone.

I first heard this beautiful Chinese Folk song MO LI HUA (Jasmine Flower) performed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In China, the Jasmine Flower represents beauty, elegance and grace. This song is one of my favorite pieces from the Orient.

It is dedicated to my dear friends Franklin and Lena who inspired me to arrange this famous Chinese song for piano.  

The sheet music is clearly notated with dynamic and articulation marks, phrasing, pedal indications, chord symbols, including suggested fingerings and appropriate musical terms for playing.

This is a wonderful arrangement for intermediate level students, professional pianists, and piano teachers.

Jasmine, Mo Li Hua, is not just a flower in Chinese tradition, it is a popular title for Chinese folk songs and tunes. Except for the most famous one which has been internationally acknowledged that I adopted, I picked another Cantonese folk tune also named Jasmine for this composition.

In every big historical moment, no matter good or bad, Jasmine is the most crucial tune accompanied by us, we sang, we played it. There have been happening many things recently in Hong Kong. How do we adopt these two tunes in our context?

This is a piano solo arrangement “Jasmine Flower Fantasy � by Ala Gialla. It is based on the famous Chinese folk tune “Jasmine Flower� (茉莉花). It starts with a fantasy-like introduction, followed by variations of the main theme that appears in both primo and secondo parts, in various characters and moods, some more melodious and lyrical, others more rhythmic and march-like. It eventually grows more dramatically with expansive arpeggiations, only to calm down to a much softer dynamics toward the end, finishing on a softer note.
