SKU: A0.774404

Composed by Steve Allen. Arranged by Brad Esbensen. Contemporary,Film/TV,Jazz,Standards. 94 pages. Brad Esbensen Music Services #4776253. Published by Brad Esbensen Music Services (A0.774404).

This is an up-tempo swing arrangement of the Steve Allen Talk Show opening theme in the key of Bb major. Brass ranges are generally comfortable although there are a couple of places where the 1st trumpet requires an E6, although these short passages (intro and ending) could be played 8vab by the brass section. This chart would make a great opener for your next performance! I hope you enjoy performing this chart and if you would like it transposed into another key, please e-mail me at brad@bemus.com.au. www.bemus.com.au

By Billy Taylor. By Billy Taylor. Arranged by Matthew Darwin. Jazz,Standards. Score and Parts. 74 pages. Matthew Darwin #843179. Published by Matthew Darwin (A0.1248681).

The classic Billy Taylor composition, made famous by Nina Simone and use on Barry Norman's Film programmes, arranged for Big Band - 5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, piano, bass and drums.

Piano leads the way, followed by a solo with band backings, into a key change for a great sax section soli.  Solos for trumpet and baritone saxophone follow before breaking down into an unaccompanied sax and trombone a capella section.  The final climax of the piece drops down to the piano with the band singing the refrain before a big ending!

Concert and transposing scores included, along with full band parts.

This is one of the arrangements I did for the Glenn Miller “In the Christmas Mood†recordings. True to the “Miller Sound,†the sax section is configured like the original band and is voiced from the top (clarinet) down in close position with the 2nd tenor doubling the clarinet melody an octave below. Alto 1 plays lead clarinet. Alto 2 plays the 1st Alto part Tenor 1 stays on tenor Tenor 2 stays on tenor doubling the clarinet melody exactly down an octave Baritone plays the 2nd Alto part The original recording featured a vocal group like the Modernaires but it can be replaced by any solo Vocal. Vocal is in concert “Câ€.
