In those days I mainly wrote music for classical guitar and was experimenting with ragtime. Since then the various themes blossomed into chamber music, from solos, duos and trios up to full sized orchestras.

This realisation by Jeremiah Bornfield is based on Colin Bayliss'  chamber orchestra arrangement of my composition.(The original version was for recorder orchestra) An Amble round Mercury refers to the pond and associated statue of Mercury in the centre of Tom Quad at my college, Christ Church Oxford. The piece represents a gentle walk round this quad to the accompaniment of a basso ostinato which meanders through the orchestral texture.
