Clarinet Duet Clarinet - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.587524

Composed by Jeremiah Clarke. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. 2 scores. 3 pages. David McKeown #4355049. Published by David McKeown (A0.587524).

The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremoniesIt was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard.

This full version is arranged as a duet for two Clarinets and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamics.

Two popular marches from the classical repertoire are paired together in this wonderful new arrangement. Jeremiah Clarke's (1674--1707) Trumpet Voluntary was originally written for organ and trumpet and is frequently heard as a processional at wedding ceremonies. Franz Schubert's (1797--1828) Marche Militaire was originally written as a piano duet but has been reset for various instrumental ensembles. This effective arrangement gives the young band student an opportunity to perform two of the most famous marches of all time. (Correlated to Accent on Achievement, Book 1, Page 30).

After decades of discussion, musicologists seem to agree that it was Jeremiah Clarke that composed Trumpet Voluntary and not Henry Purcell. In rondo form, this majestic march is a standard in the Baroque repertoire. This arrangement is a good opening number at a performance or could be used at weddings within Prelude, Processional or Recessional.

Dynamics plus lever and pedal changes are clearly marked. The melody is entirely in Harp I. You will receive the Score, Harp I, and Harp II.
