Originally in E♭m, I have thoughtfully written the parts so that it can easily be played up one semitone in Em. There’s a lovely section featuring some jeté bowing in the second violin later on which could easily be simplified for less experienced players. This catchy, uptempo, Hi-NRG dance-pop anthem featured in the highly successful first Pitch Perfect film, with Ester Dean (who wrote it) nailing that iconic intro. S&M peaked at number one in ten countries in addition to the United States while peaking within the top five in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Ireland. As one of Rihanna’s most memorable songs, it’s sure to be recognised by many. Important: Included: Score and set of parts in E♭m and Em. It was said to be sung by the angels when you got to Heaven, and sa-sa-la-do is the solfege of the angels' song. The turtle dove is Noah's dove, and a 'do-do' is an African lullaby. This song was first recorded by gospel singer, Bessie Jones. She learned it from her grandfather, Jet Sampson, an ex-slave who was born in Africa and died in 1941 at the age of 105. Numerous other pop and folk singers have performed this song, including the Grateful Dead, Andrew Calhoun & Fred Campeau, Lee and Sarah Atkinson, and Caroline Aiken. Here, it is presented for 4-part a cappella choir.
