SSAA choir and piano - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.AHM-22-E Composed by Christopher Aspaas. Christmas. Instrument part. 16 pages. Aspen Hill Music - Digital #AHM-22-E. Published by Aspen Hill Music - Digital (MQ.AHM-22-E). English. This setting of ‘Twas in the Moon of Wintertime was created for the Manitou Singers of St. Olaf College and their conductor, Dr. Therees Tkach Hibbard. I was asked to re-arrange my SATB setting of the same tune and text (published by earthsongs) but could not come up with a workable solution. Instead, I started over with a setting for accompanied treble choir and viola knowing the skill and musicianship of violist Dr. Charles Gray, Professor of Music (Viola, Violin, String Literature and Pedagogy). Three tunes are incorporated in this arrangement: Une Jeune Pucelle; Vom Himmel Hoch; and, Veni, Emmanuel. The first tune, Une Jeune Pucelle, is the ‘Twas in the Moon of Wintertime melody, and first appears in fragments within the opening viola solo. The second theme, Vom Himmel Hoch, is found in the viola part in measure 30, and implies the text, “From heaven above to earth I come To bear good news to every home; Glad tidings of great joy I bring, Whereof I now will say and sing...†which matches the unfolding drama of the ‘Twas in the Moon story. The third tune, Veni, Emmanuel, comes in response to the viola solo with the interjection: “Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel, shall come to you, O Israel.â€.

Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1147711 Composed by Traditional French Melody. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. Score and parts. 16 pages. Con Spirito Music #747929. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1147711). “The Huron Carol†is the popular name for a Christmas song written in the language of the Wendat, an indigenous people of Canada — their name meaning “people of the island†or “dwellers on a peninsula†— nicknamed “Huron†(“boar's headâ€) by French explorers and traders due to the bristly hairstyle of Wendat men.The song began as a tool for teaching and converting the Wendat to Christianity, and it was likely written in the early 1640s by the French Jesuit missionary, Jean de Brébeuf. In Wendat, the song is titled “Jesous Ahatonnia,†which means “Jesus is Born.†The song's melody is based on a traditional French folk song, “Une Jeune Pucelle†(“A Young Maidâ€). Jean de Brébeuf’s lyrics present the Nativity story using images and ideas that would have been familiar to the Wendat. Angels are “spirits†and “sky peopleâ€; the Magi (wise men) are “elders,†and as an act of reverence they oil Jesus’ scalp, a practice Wendat people would have recognized. Today, “The Huron Carol's†most well-known lyrics, beginning “'Twas in the moon of winter-time,†were written by Canadian poet Jesse Middleton and published in 1927 in a small illustrated book titled “The First Canadian Christmas Carol.â€Middleton’s text is not a translation, but a complete rewriting of “Jesous Ahatonnia†for English speakers, and bears almost no relation to the original Wendat text. Middleton relied on stereotypes, critics say, painting a picture of an indigenous Nativity in a “lodge of broken bark,†with “hunter braves†replacing shepherds, and “gifts of fur and beaver pelt†delivered by “chiefs from far.†Still, the carol has long been popular, perhaps in part due to its refrain, “Jesus your King is born, Jesus is born. In excelsis gloria!†and its pairing with the easily singable “Une Jeune Pucelle†tune. This arrangement for brass quintet takes a contemplative, lyrical approach, featuring rich harmonies to the chant-like tune and contrasts in dynamics and tempo that evoke both the quiet peace and solemnity accompanying the birth of Christ.©Copyright 2022 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1156439 Composed by Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Baroque,Chamber,Christian,Christmas. 31 pages. RayThompsonMusic #756754. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1156439). Arranged standard wind quintet Charpentier wrote a lot of music for Christmas: oratorios on Christmas themes, pastorals, noels, and a lovely Midnight Mass for Christmas. He arranged a lot of French Christmas Carols (Noels) as 2 suites _ Noels sur les instruments and Noels pour les instruments for a string orchestra and 2 flutes/recorders. This is my transcription of the Noëls sur les instruments for standard wind quintet. (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon) They are 6 pieces : Les Bourgeois de Chastre (The Townsfolk of Chastre)  Où s'en vont ces gais bergers (Where have the merry shepherds gone?)  Joseph est bien marié (Joseph is happily married)  Or nous dites Marie (But, tell us Mary)  A la venue de Noël (With the coming of Christmas)  Une jeune pucelle (A young maid/virgin/girl) This is purely the order they are shown in his manuscript.   They appear in his Midnight Mass in the following order: (This follows the Christmas Story) Joseph est bien marié (Joseph is well married) Or nous dites Marie (But, tell us Mary) Une jeune pucelle (A young maid/virgin/girl) Les Bourgeois de Chastre (The Townsfolk of Chastre)  Où s'en vont ces gais bergers (Where have the merry shepherds gone?) Chamber Orchestra - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.963562 Composed by Claude Le jeune. Arranged by Cristiano Vecchi. Instructional,Renaissance,Sacred. Score and parts. 63 pages. Cristiano Vecchi #6491553. Published by Cristiano Vecchi (A0.963562). A mystical fugue in seven voices, with fascinating harmonical nuances, published in 1607.In his mature work Claude Le Jeune applied classical prosody to obtain a greater intelligibility of the lyrics; in this arrangement phrasing and accents, not present in the original, have been added to mantain this peculiar prosody; also have been added dynamic indications to enhance expression and formal architecture. The score has been written for: Flute, Oboe, En. Horn, Clar. in Bb, Bass Clar., Fr. Horn, Bassoon (Woodwind Quintet + Bass Clar. + En. Horn), anyway 52 extra parts are included to cover a large number of combinations (Woodwinds with Saxophones, Brass, Strings), very useful for classroom exercitations or for recitals where is required a more symphonic sound with doubling. Duration: 2'30.MP3 also available on this website. My entire production on my Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe9Kd87V90fbPsUBU5gaXKw/playlists
