By Meat Loaf. By Jim Steinman. Arranged by Michael Thomas Coull. 20th Century,Contemporary,Pop,Rock,Standards. 18 pages. MTC Publishing #859757. Published by MTC Publishing (A0.1267123).

You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth - Choral Arrangement for SSAA and Piano by Michael Thomas Coull.

You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (also known as You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)) is the first solo single by the American singer Meat Loaf, released in 1977.  It is a track from his album Bat Out of Hell, written by Jim Steinman.

According to his autobiography, Meat Loaf asked Jim Steinman to write a song that was not 15 or 20 minutes long, and, in Meat Loaf’s words, a ‘pop song’.  His autobiography also dates the writing of the song to 1975, the song reportedly being a key factor in Meat Loaf and Steinman deciding to do an album together.

The song was the first single released from the album, with an edit of For Crying Out Loud as the B-side.  The record peaked at No. 73 in the Record World singles chart, and didn't appear at all in Billboard Hot 100.  Billboard reviewed the single, finding the guitar introduction to be energetic, the beat to be ‘catchy’ and the vocal performance to be somewhat similar to Bruce Springsteen.  Billboard also commented on how occasional pauses in the instruments allow the ‘infectious’ vocals to be highlighted.

Following the success of the next two singles, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad and Paradise by the Dashboard Light, the song was re-released in October 1978 with Paradise as the B-side.  This issue peaked at No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, over a year after the first release of the song.

This exciting and energetic choral arrangement is voiced for SSAA women's choir with piano accompaniment, and will lend a touch of contemporary pop/rock to your next concert.

Also available for SATB.

By Musical (original Cast). By Jim Steinman and Michael Kunze. Arranged by David Boyd. 20th Century,Broadway,Chamber,Musical/Show. Score and part. 27 pages. David Boyd #1064971. Published by David Boyd (A0.1488112).

General Overview

Die Unstillbare Gier (The Insatiable Greed) is a hauntingly beautiful piece composed by Jim Steinman and Michael Kunze for the musical Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires).

The opening motif is a haunting reminder of a melody from “Einladung Zum Ball” (Invitation to the Ball), heard earlier in the show. The main melodic material was previously recorded (albeit with different lyrics) by Meatloaf under the title “Objects in the Rearview Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are” on the album “Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell”.

This arrangement has been crafted for solo Eb Alto Clarinet and Piano, and includes a transcription for Bb Soprano Clarinet

Artistic Vision

The essence of Die Unstillbare Gier lies in its emotional depth and dramatic intensity. This arrangement aims to capture the melancholic yearning and the deep, insatiable desire conveyed in the original composition. Both the Alto and Soprano Clarinet versions are designed to explore the expressive range of the instruments, bringing out the haunting melody and rich harmonies.

By Bonnie Tyler. By Jim Steinman. Arranged by Alex Wilson. Pop. Score and parts. 55 pages. Alexander Wilson #6702973. Published by Alexander Wilson (A0.775358).

Co-written by Jim Steinman and Dean Pitchford and made famous by singer Bonnie Tyler, Holding Out For A Hero is a song that has been relevant to popular culture from 1984 to the present day.  Originally written for the soundtrack of Footloose, the song has since appeared in many TV shows, commercials, and other movies, including the film Shrek 2, and more recently, Disney's TV series Loki.

From the sultry melody, to the female chorus, to the trumpet parts in the original song, this piece is arranged beautifully for trumpet ensemble.  This particular arrangement is 4 minutes long, in the original key, and includes 9 Bb trumpet parts.  The 1st part additionally requires access to a Bb piccolo trumpet.  Parts 1-4 are rather challenging, while parts 5-9 are easier but still fun to play.  The required skill level is approximately that of an undergraduate trumpet studio.
