It’s one of the first jazz tunes that many players learn.  Killer Joe is among the eight standards written by Benny Golson for the jazz repertoire. The song was written in 1954 and first appeared on the album entitled Flyin' Home by the jazz vibraphonist Lionel Hampton. The song had its premiere in 1954 during the composer's stint with Lionel Hampton's big band.

Ranges are comfortable and mostly in first position allowing for younger players to manage this nicely.  The piano and drums parts are optional but will add greatly to the jazz flavor.
