Viola Duet Viola - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587169 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Christian,Christmas,Sacred,Standards. Score. 5 pages. David McKeown #3077259. Published by David McKeown (A0.587169). Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring is the usual title in English of the last movement of J S Bach’s Cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Originally scored for choir, trumpet, violin and basso continuo, it was written in 1723 for the church of St Thomas in Leipzig where Bach was employed. This version is scored for Two Violas. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The famous melody in 9/8 alternates with the slow 4-part chorale sections. All players will enjoy experiencing the rich texture of Bach’s harmony. The overall performance time is around three minutes if played at the faster tempo that Bach preferred. The sample recording is from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version of this duet. The complete performance on youtube is from the Clarinet version. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to introduce 9/8 rhythms. Woods Only, Arrangements #691814. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1087604). This easy arrangement for viola quintet has been adapted to be simple to perform and understand the structure of the original work for various levels of musical knowledge. It is often performed at wedding ceremonies slowly and reverently, challenging the effect suggested by Bach in his original score for voices with trumpet, oboes, strings, and continuous bass. This is one of Bach's most beautiful cantatas, made famous by the Jesus the Joy of Men chorus. It was originally composed for Advent 1716 in Weimar. Years later, already in Leipzig, Advent was tempus clausum, there was no music in the churches. Bach then reworked it for the Feast of Mary's Visitation. It is the final chorale of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Although it is the 32nd cantata composed by Bach, of those that have survived, it was given BWV 147 in the complete catalog of his works.

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.551215). Duet No. 2 - F. 55. Contents: I. Allegro ma non troppo II. Cantabile III. Alla breve IV. Gigue, AllegroThe history of W. F. Bach's Duets F. 54 is rooted in the 18th century and is part of a collection of six duets for two flutes, including F. 55–59. These duets are considered among the finest examples of the genre from the 18th century and are significant as they showcase the composer's talent and contribution to chamber music. The exact dates of composition for these duets are not definitively known, but there is strong evidence that the last two duets, including F. 54, were composed in the last decade of W.F. Bach's life when he lived in Berlin. The duets are characterized by refined nuances, interwoven two-part writing, and rapid outer movements, demonstrating a range of musical expression and technical proficiency. Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710–1784) was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, and Johann Sebastian Bach's eldest son.

Baroque,Holiday,Standards,Wedding. 36 pages. Jmsgu3 #6492349. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552649). Sonata No. 1 BWV 525, originally for organ, arranged for flute trio: 1 concert flute, 1 alto flute, 1 bass flute. Duration: 14:15, Score: 19 pages. In three movements.I. AllegroII. AdagioIII. AllegroJ.S. Bach's Trio Sonatas BWV 525-530 are some of the most popular and beloved works of the Baroque period. Composed in 1717, these six trio sonatas for the organ are among Bach's earliest works for the instrument. They are all in the traditional three-movement form and are composed in the style of the Italian concerto grosso, with two upper voices (treble and alto) and a basso continuo. The two upper voices often intertwine in intricate contrapuntal melodies, while the basso continuo provides harmonic support. The works are also full of virtuosic passages that demonstrate Bach's mastery of the organ. The Trio Sonatas are considered to be among the most important and influential works of the Baroque era, and they continue to be widely performed and studied today. The Bach Trio Sonatas have been successfully transcribed for a variety of ensembles, including wind, string, and brass ensembles. The parts are easily divided among a variety of wind instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone. In these transcriptions, the original material is retained, but often with some additional orchestration or embellishment. These transcriptions often emphasize the polyphonic texture of the original works, creating a rich soundscape.  The Sonatas have also been successfully adapted for a variety of string ensembles. In these versions, the original two-part texture with the basso is maintained, creating a full and satisfying sound that allows for a more nuanced interpretation of the works. In addition, these transcriptions often add a variety of dynamic markings and articulations that were not present in the original editions. These transcriptions provide performers with a variety of options for interpreting and performing these beloved works.

Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Wedding. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #868826. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1277138). Air on a G String is the popular nickname for the Air from Orchestral Suite #3 in D Major, BWV 1068 by J. S. Bach. Duration: 5:53 (taking both repeats). Level: Intermediate and up. Programming: Great choice for recitals and useful for almost any church service, reception, wedding, or event where insightful meditation is desired. This music is well known and admired by nearly everyone, so you will have an advantage in providing something familiar and well-cherished for your audience. This is the piece to demonstrate dynamic control, tone quality, and strategic phrasing of long melodic lines.Bach: Air on a G String - ~ Bach composed three noteworthy Orchestral Suites. He wrote his third orchestral suite, BWV 1068 in D, for his Collegium Musicum. The Overture of the suite features a double-dotted rhythm in the French style and employs the entire ensemble: trumpet trio, timpani, oboe duet, and strings. The strings were the typical 2 violin parts, viola part, and continuo of cello and harpsichord. Air - the title of the second movement, is, by contrast, scored only for the strings. It seems like this work was entitled Air on a G String not by Bach, but by a nineteenth-century violinist named August Wilhelmj. He arranged the Air such that the first violin part was performed by a single soloist – and entirely on the G String.

Score and parts. 8 pages. Josef STASTNY #3213765. Published by Josef STASTNY (A0.743228). The Ave Maria by Bach/Gounod is a popular and much-recorded setting of the Latin text Ave Maria, originally published in 1853 as Méditation sur le Premier Prélude de Piano de S. Bach. The piece consists of a melody by the French Romantic composer Charles Gounod that he superimposed over an only very slightly changed version of the Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846, from Book I of J.S. Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, written 137 years earlier. (Wikipedia). This arrangement tries to keep both nice melody by Gounod and arpegios with harmony written by Bach. Some other brass arrangements: trios:           http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=+josef+stastny+brass+trioquartets:   http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=+josef+stastny+brass+quartet

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1128370 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Chamber,Classical,Contest,Festival,Wedding. 30 pages. Jmsgu3 #728962. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1128370). J. S. Bach's Six Little Preludes BWV 933-938 were composed during the Baroque period. The preludes are in the key of C major and are among Bach's most famous works. They are short pieces, each lasting about two minutes in duration. Each prelude is a miniature, self-contained piece with its own musical ideas and themes. The preludes demonstrate Bach's mastery of counterpoint and his ability to create complex, interesting musical textures. The first prelude is simple and joyful, while the second prelude features a fugue. The third prelude is a chromatic, slightly more serious piece. The fourth prelude is a bright, joyful piece with a lot of counterpoint. The fifth prelude is quiet and contemplative, and the sixth is more lively and upbeat. These preludes provide an excellent example of Bach's mastery of the Baroque style.
