Bach, from his Cantata 147 (BWV 147), “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,� is rendered here in a setting for FLUTE (or any acceptable C Instrument), TROMBONE, ORGAN (reduction of Bach’s 2nd Violin and Viola Parts; both 2- and 3-staff scores, whichever the player finds easiest to read, are provided) and S.A.T.B. Choir voices. With an organ reduction that is particularly simple, this arrangement allows for performance by almost any reasonably skilled group of church musicians and singers and may be easily adapted to other suitable C instruments such as Violin or Oboe and Bassoon or Cello. Piece may be performed with as few as seven (7) players/singers, but is enhanced with a larger ensemble and choir. Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is a chorale from a 1723 Bach Cantata. The music's popularity has given way to many transcripts for various instruments and ensembles. This arrangement is for solo unaccompanied cello. It includes some double stops and accompaniment figues in the cello's melody line to give a fuller sense of harmonization to the solo rendition of the tune. Even though the cello is playing unaccompanied, it doesn't sound bare or unsupported.

Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is one of Bach's best loved choruses. It comes from his Cantata no.147, written in 1723 during his first year as Thomaskantor of Leipzig.
It is here arranged for 2 Sopranos, Flute and Piano. The flute part is designed to interweave with Bach's original accompaniment, which features almost continuous triplet movement.
The words are by the British Poet Laureate Robert Bridges (1844-1930). 
This piece is a great choice for performance at weddings and in concerts generally.
