SKU: A0.1389961

Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by Steve Stanfill. 19th Century,Classical,Religious. Individual part. 3 pages. Steve Stanfill #973524. Published by Steve Stanfill (A0.1389961).

This is an organ transcription of the Brahms Op. 122, No 6 chorale prelude, O Wie selig seid ihr doch, ihr Frommen,  This beautifully complex organ prelude is part of a collection of chorale preludes penned by Johannes Brahms in the summer of 1896, just after the death of his dear friend, Clara Schumann.  About this same time Brahms learned that he had pancreatic cancer, which would prove fatal less than a year later.  These pieces are complex, profound musical statements that contemplate eternity--a capstone, if you will, of Brahms life as a man and as a musician.

This piece, No. 6 of the 11 published posthumously in 1902, is presented here transcribed for easier performance than URTEXT versions of the piece, primarily by shifting voicing to facilitate easier reading in several measures, as well as providing a discrete pedal line, again, to facilitate performance.

The suggested registration is made to utilize a melody coupler (found on many modern digital instruments) to emphasize the chorale melody rather than create a discrete solo line.

Johannes Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5, expertly arranged by American composer P. F. Strohm for a trio consisting of two tenor trombones and piano. Brahms was enthralled with the rhythms and melodies of Hungarian music. He originally wrote his 21 Hungarian Dances for piano four-hands, and loved performing them for his friends. P. F. Strohm has placed the first six of these musical gems into a new setting of two trombones and piano, drawing from the original piano score; from the violin and piano arrangements made by Brahms' friend, Joseph Joachim; and from Brahms' own solo piano arrangements. These new arrangements are for skilled performers on all parts. Written for and dedicated to Mark Kellogg and Larry Zalkind at the Eastman School of Music, the dances are excellent for recitals and contests, and make wonderful encores. The Hungarian Dances (German: Ungarische Tänze) by Johannes Brahms (WoO 1), are a set of 21 lively dance tunes based mostly on Hungarian themes, completed in 1879. They are among Brahms's most popular works and were the most profitable for him. The better-known Hungarian Dances include Nos. 1 and 5, the latter of which was based on the csárdás Bártfai emlék (Memories of Bártfa) by Hungarian composer Béla Kéler, which Brahms mistakenly thought was a traditional folksong.

This arrangement for bassoon with piano accompaniment reflects faithfully the original.

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was a German composer who crafted his works using the techniques of musical counterpoint within traditional forms. Within those strictures he created many beautiful and powerful works. A romantic period ballade usually implies a poetic narrative and often composed without a specific form. Completed in 1893, Brahms has set this Ballade in ABA form and is a part of his later piano works displaying a forceful opening contrasted with a light middle section. It finishes quietly and, as some have posited, introspectively. This is an arrangement for 3 Oboes, 2 English Horns, 4 Bassoons, & Contrabassoon. In addition to works by Brahms, we offer works by J.S. Bach, Debussy, Fauré, Glinka, Gottschalk, Granados, Griffes, Lotti, Mozart, Ravel, Richard Strauss, and Turina.
