Suddenly It’s Spring was written by Jimmy Van Heusen with lyrics by Johnny Burke. The song was copyrighted on 7 December 1943 and recorded by Ginger Rogers and Don Loper for the 1944 feature film Lady in the Dark, though it was cut from the film. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have implemented in many of our arrangements. We hope you like what we've done with this grand old tune!

My Prelude on the tune St. Catherine (Faith of Our Fathers) is intended for church pianists looking for interesting arrangements of hymns familiar to their congregations.  It is written in an overtly late 19th century romantic style with considerable use of chromaticism.  A fairly lengthy introduction hints frequently at the tune before the melody proper appears.  The chorus concludes in grandiose style followed by a brief postlude that quietly reiterates the opening measures of the piece.  I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.  I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

My Prelude on the hymn tune Mit Freuden Zart (Sing Praise to God, Who Reigns Above) is intended for church pianists looking for interesting arrangements of hymns familiar to their congregations.  My arrangement consists of two sections.  The first hints strongly at the Mixolydian mode in the key of D, while the second employs the Aeolian mode in C-sharp.  The piece begins with a 14-bar introduction before the hymn tune appears, accompanied by a rhythmically energetic combination of rests and parallel triads.  Then the melody moves to the bass, accompanied by a spurt of eighth-notes in the key of B major, creating a short bitonal passage.  After brief references to other keys, the main key of D returns.  The second section presents the melody harmonized with parallel triads and accompanied by a constantly moving stream of octaves in the left hand.  I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.  I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

My arrangement of the hymn tune Lyons (O Worship the King) is a relatively simple setting that requires only a two-manual organ and modest playing ability.  Like the original tune, this setting is cast in 3-part, or ABA, form.  The first, second, and fourth phrases of the tune are notated in elongated note values to allow for a more rhythmically active accompaniment.  The third phrase, notated in the original quarter-note values, is elaborated upon, thus bringing the middle B-secion into better balance with the outer two A-sections.  I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.  I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

My Variations on St. Christopher (Beneath the Cross of Jesus) require a wide range of technical prowess from relatively easy (Variation II) to advanced (Variation VII).  The Theme presents the unadorned hymn tune with an original 4-part harmonization.  Variation I is another 4-part setting but with a more rhythmically active acompaniment in the lower voices.  Variation II, a duo for the hands alone, is in the dominant key where the tune is accompanied by an unrelenting stream of triplets.  Variation III is a 3-voice canon in which the tenor and pedal bass imitate the soprano, though with a certain amount of intervallic freedom.  Variation IV is a trio in which the middle voice presents an ornamented version of the hymn tune.  Variation V is a brief fughetta, while Variation VI presents the tune in the pedals against quietly undulating triplets in the hands.  The final variation (entitled Introduction and Fugal Fantasy) is by far the most challenging and employs considerable chromaticism toward the end.  I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.  I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangememts of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

This Prelude on the Christmas carol tune Christmas Song (There's a Song in the Air) is the second of two settings I have created based on this tune.  This setting, like the first, requires only a two-manual organ, but it is a bit harder to play than the first setting.  It is a trio in which the right hand plays an eighth-note accompaniment continuously from beginning to end.  Phrases of the tune, played by the left hand, are stated in pairs separated by interludes, first in G major and then again in E-flat major.  The pedal part provides a slow moving bass line to complete the harmony.  I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.  I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.
