Most parts are doubled in order to make the music more versatile for bands with instrumentation issues. Two and four bar phrases are used with melodic scale patterns that represent the Silver Linings and the second major theme. This piece starts with the first theme Grey Clouds that are played by the brass, lower woodwinds, saxophones, and percussion section. The two themes are played together at the end finishing with rhythmic unison.

The march-like tempo and style incorporates the first 6 notes of the Bb major scale while keeping simple rhythmic patterns of quarter notes, half notes and whole notes for the wind instruments. The snare drum has sixteenth notes in combination with eighth notes while the bass drum and tambourine have mostly quarter notes and half notes. Two and four bar phrases are used to create a leisurely stroll while Walking to the Park.

California Dreamin' is a classic song from the mid 1960s folk-rock era written by John Phillips and Michelle Phillips and was first recorded by Barry McGuire. However, the best known version is by The Mamas & the Papas, who sang backup on the original version and released as a single in 1965. The lyrics of the song express the narrator's longing for the warmth of Los Angeles during a cold winter in New York City.  It was certified as a Gold Record (single) by the RIAA in June 1966 and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001.
