Large Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Bass Guitar,Drum Set,Drums,Trombone,Trumpet,Vibraphone,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.844237 By Miles Davis. By Gil Evans and Miles Davis. Arranged by Gerhard Guter. Jazz. Score and parts. 44 pages. Gerhard Guter #3574147. Published by Gerhard Guter (A0.844237). Jazz vocalists with a band will want to check this out! In 1949, Miles Davis organized the recording of twelve arrangements for the Capitol label, including the composition Boplicity. The composition, popularized with the lyric Bebop Lives by the late, great Mark Murphy,  was originally recorded by: Miles Davis (trumpet), Mike Zwerin (trombone), Bill Barber (tuba), Junior Collins (French horn), Gerry Mulligan (baritone saxophone), Lee Konitz (alto saxophone), John Lewis (piano), Al McKibbon (bass), and Max Roach (drums). This new treatment maintains the cool flavor of the tune/arrangement, but is scored for jazz voice (could be doubled at the octave by an additional singer) with fully notated syllables. Unlike the original arrangement, neither tuba nor horn are required. Instead, the conventional instrumentation consists of flugelhorn (or trumpet - no mutes), alto sax, trombone, vibraphone, guitar, piano, bass, and drums. Exciting twists include a multi-meter bridge section, which weaves in and out of 3/4. Improv section with backgrounds and room for multiple soloists. Changes are in all parts. Horn ranges are very accessible and this is a great opportunity for a singer who wants to perform this classic tune with their band.   Demo performed and recorded by Gerhard Guter.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.844244 By John Coltrane. By John Coltrane. Arranged by Gerhard Guter. Jazz. 10 pages. Gerhard Guter #4267419. Published by Gerhard Guter (A0.844244). If you’re looking for an up-tempo, minor blues swing with plenty of space for scatting and instrumental improvisation, then dig P.C.! This arrangement of the John Coltrane classic, which pays tribute to legendary jazz bassist and Miles Davis compatriot Paul Chambers, provides an exciting introduction, statement of the theme in varied textures, a challenging (optional) soli, and room for lots of energetic drum solos. Following an introductory figure reminiscent of Miles Davis and Victor Feldman’s well-known Seven Steps to Heaven collaboration, the arrangement features two optional background choruses to keep the blowing fresh and interesting. After the improvisation, the drums and piano drop out, sending off a challenging, optional soli (18 second mark in demo) featuring a doubled, walking vocal and acoustic bassline. As this section concludes, the acoustic bass drops out and the drums re-enter, propelling a fugal statement of the melody (25 second mark in demo). Following a return to the head, the arrangement modulates upward by whole step to its exciting conclusion. Piano, bass, and drums read off the included composite rhythm section part. The arrangement, which makes prominent use of sharp ninth chords during the head, is a great teaching tool for basses and altos in any vocal jazz ensemble! Demo performed by Christine Guter, Gerhard Guter, and Dina Humble Backing tracks available here: http://tiny.cc/mpnsuz

Acoustic Guitar,Instrumental Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1153431 Composed by Traditional/Anonymous. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Classical,Early Music,Folk,Traditional. Individual part. 41 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #753692. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1153431). This is the thirteenth volume of an extensive collection of folk songs arranged for the classical guitar mostly in two-part counterpoint. The arrangements are of moderate difficulty and the aims of this publication are to familiarise, entertain and educate guitarists (and other musicians) with a melodic repertoire of lasting aesthetic value, under the light of contrapuntal treatment. The thirty five volumes of this collection can certainly be printed on paper if so desired and there are a few pages in each volume, either blank or with photographs of various musicians, which can be inserted at will in any place for the correct ordering of left and right hand pages so that page turns can be avoided. The principle of avoiding page turns has been maintained in all volumes, but this edition is also designed with mobile electronic devices in mind such as tablets etc, using the environment and facilities of a score reading application, towards a paperless world, at least in music. Therefore the size of the staves is bigger than usual for ease of reading on a small screen but not big enough to exceed the limit of a two-page view. Active internal links for navigating from thematic indexes to particular songs and back to indexes have been added, and also external internet links to sites that give further information for the 945 songs of this first collection for classical guitar.Folk Songs For Classical Guitar - Volume 13 (Songs 325-351)Flowers in the Valley [The Red, The Green and the Yellow]Flowers O’ the ForestFoggy Dew (the)Football CrazyFor I am a Maid that’s Deep in LoveForsaken Maiden - A Maiden Sat A-WeepingForty MilesFour in a BoatFour Maries (the)Four Pence a DayFox 1 (THE)Fox 2 (THE)Fox 3 (THE)Fox Hunt (the)Frenet Ha’Friendly Beasts (THE)Frog and the Mouse (THE)Fum, Fum Fum!Gabriel’s MessageGarden Gate (THE)Garden where the Praties Grow (THE)Gathering PeascodsGentlemen of High RenownGently Johnny my Jingalo (different key)GeordieGeorge CollinsGeorgie.

Bassoon Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018966 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 2 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6086607. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018966). Programme Notes: Fanfare: Grit evokes the brassy and rousing tropes of adventure movie soundtracks and Saturday morning cartoons, such as those written by John Williams, Shirley Walker, among others. Writing this piece was an escapade to my own musical roots for this was the first type of music I had been exposed to as a child: incidental music accompanying perilous quests, hairbreadth escapes, and other trials blocking the hero’s path to victory and redemption. I wanted to compose a piece that harkens back to the music that I first fell in love with, that opened up the gates of a legacy--symphonic classical music--that’s always been my solace in trying times. What is grit? Grit is the dirt between smiles and between barefoot toes. Grit is a hard-boiled detective. Grit is tilling the tough soil for the possibility of a beautiful blossoming of flowers.   Grit is saying, See you soon, and making sure it happens. Grit is helping others when it’s hard to help yourself. Grit isn’t easy bravery, but the kind of courage you need to build up brick by brick. The obligatory synonyms: courage, bravery, pluck, mettle, and spirit. Finally, this composition, the fourth of my so-called Beethoven Episodes, was written to accompany Ludwig van Beethoven’s 4th Symphony. This work was written on his 250th anniversary, coincidentally during the Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020, and is the sum of my feelings wrought from that experience. Yet this work was completed on Canadian Thanksgiving, and is also an expression of all that I am grateful for, from the bottom of my heart.
