The Dream Is Still Alive was written and performed by Wilson Phillips, an American pop group that was formed in Los Angeles in 1989.  The group consisted of Carnie and Wendy Wilson, the daughters of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, and Chynna Phillips, the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas.

Their 1990 self-titled debut album sold over 10 million copies worldwide and included five major US hit singles, three of which went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100.  The Dream Is Still Alive was released in June 1991 – the fifth and final single to be released from this album – and peaked just outside the Billboard top ten, at number 12.

John and Michelle Phillips wrote this song during a chill winter in New York in 1963. It was first recorded by Barry McGuire; not until 1965 did the Phillipses record it in the version by The Mamas and The Papas that is the familiar hit. It's now listed as No. 89 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. (No. 1, from that same year, is Bob Dylan's Like A Rolling Stone. Of course.)

California Dreamin' was written in 1963 by John Phillips and Michelle Phillips when they were members of the folk group The New Journeymen - which later evolved into The Mamas and The Papas. The song was written while they were on tour in New York City during a cold winter, while they yearned for the sunny skies and white sandy beaches of California. This song became the signpost of the California sound and was the anthem to the pure magic of California. This Duo arrangement is a relaxed, easygoing rendition of the effortless melody - as carefree and nonchalant as a day on a California beach.

This arrangement is for classical guitar duet with a performance time of 5 minutes. Demand level is intermediate. I made this arrangement to perform with Peruvian virtuoso, Alfredo Muro, who is a wizard at improvisation. Thus there were two sections that were open to improvisation on guitar two.
