Composed by Gustavo Fuentes. Arranged by Gustavo Fuentes. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,New Age,World. Score and parts. 3 pages. Gustavo Fuentes #3637523. Published by Gustavo Fuentes (A0.900404).

The Sky in Your Eyes. Celtic music song composed by Gustavo Fuentes, arranged for two voices. One melody instrument, such as tin-whistle, flute, recorder, low whistle, violin or piano and low voice like cello or bass, with chords for piano or guitar. The audio is from to the Gustavo Fuentes CD Almas en vuelo that you can listen to on Spotify.
The eyes are the windows to the soul. They can reflect sadness, happiness, pain, peace, love. The eyes of a mother looking at her child, of a migrant taking one last look at their homeland, the eyes of two lovers getting lost in ecstasy.
So we must let our eyes be. Let them fill up with tears of joy, tears of sadness and tears of excitement. We must truly let our eyes be windows to our souls so those that want to get to know it only need to look inside. Once we let our eyes reflect the skies, reflect smiles, reflect hope and even reflect the world, we might be able to perceive the eyes around us.

Composed by Joseph White. Arranged by Robert Debbaut. Instructional,Latin,Romantic Period,World. 64 pages. ROBERT DEBBAUT #6371729. Published by ROBERT DEBBAUT (A0.939440).

The talents of Cuban-born violinist Joseph White (born José Silvestre de los Dolores White y Lafitte) were recognized by the American pianist and composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-1869) who had accompanied him on an early recital. Gottschalk raised the money so the young Afro-Cuban virtuoso could go to Paris and study with Jean-Delphin Alard, one of the great violinists and teachers of his day.

White won the Premier Prix at the conservatory in 1855 and received high accolades from such musical giants as Berlioz, Gounod, Rossini, and Saint-Saëns, as well as German violin virtuosi Ferdinand David and Joseph Joachim. Following his 1855 prize (one of several more to come) Joseph White became a major force in the cultural life of Paris for the next twenty years. His Six Studies, Op. 13, demonstrate to those were never privileged to hear him his absolute command of his instrument.

The overall set is dedicated to Alard with individual studies dedicated to Alard and to four of Europe’s premiere violinists, Camillo Sivori, Henri Vieuxtemps, Henryk Wienawski, Hubert Léonard, as well as to his fellow Cuban, Secondino Arango.

These are studies for the serious violinist, or for the advanced student aspiring to achieve the same technical prowess of this incredible virtuoso performer and composer. Contained within this volume are the original exercises, biographies of the six dedicatees, as well as extra information about the life and career of this criminally forgotten violin virtuoso.  These works should be considered for the studios of master teachers and for live performance as virtuoso showpieces, or recital encores, especially number six, which is dedicated to one of White's first teachers, Afro-Cuban violin virtuoso Secundino Arango (179?-1876).

Composed by Mel Stallwood. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Mel Stallwood #3550643. Published by Mel Stallwood (A0.903600).

This is a composition about Autism, which affects a member of our family, Joshua, who despite his condition has remarkable and wonderful qualities, as do his immediate family who, it’s fair to say have been to hell and back. I personally, sometimes have problems coping with the best of people and can be most intolerant sometimes but my amazing wife manages somehow to cope with me (most of the time). However, the sort of problems and challenges families with autistic children face daily, weekly, yearly is simply herioc and very underestimated. Anyway music is the only thing I seem to be half decent at so I dedicate this piece to Josh who I know one day will be perfect.

The piece begins and ends with a stride style novelty piano tune and has sad and emotional themes and modulations throughout. There is a brief minor melt down depicted in the music and interaction issues but there is (has to be) a nice jolly happy ending which is the rag/stride style.

Etude No.1 is a piece written for the solo 6-string electric bass. It is a study based on a technique that I refer to as right hand fretting, a tapping technique that requires the right hand to fret a pitch with one finger while plucking or strumming it with another on the same hand. Here is a video link of me performing it: https://youtu.be/QyXLcvWwo8w For private lessons on Skype, email me at joshcohen@themusicofjoshcohen.com YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/user/themusicofjoshcohen FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/themusicofjoshcohen WEBSITE: http://www.themusicofjoshcohen.com TUMBLR: http://themusicofjoshcohen.tumblr.com/.

Composed by Traditional African-American Spiritual. Arranged by James Markey. Folk,Gospel,Praise & Worship,Spiritual. Score and parts. 48 pages. Gordon Cherry #4806773. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792352).

Joshua F’it de Battle of Jericho is a well-known African-American spiritual, most likely composed by slaves in the early 19th century. Early versions used the word f’it for fought. The words harken to the biblical story of the Battle of Jericho, where Joshua led the Israelites to victory against Canaanite armies.

Put into perspective, Joshua’s battle is really against slavery and the desire for freedom, like the themes of so many other spirituals from that era.

This rousing arrangement in swing-style for 8-part Trombone ensemble by James Markey is about two minutes in length, featuring the 1st and 8th parts and is for advanced performers.

The mp3 sound clip is taken from Mr. Markey’s solo Bass Trombone album, on base, and includes star performers including Joseph Alessi, David Finlayson and Lisa Albrecht

SKU: A0.808706

Composed by Fred Fisher. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Folk,Holiday,Jazz,Patriotic,Traditional. Score and parts. 40 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #6215233. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808706).

Orville and Wilbur Wright made their famous flight in late 1903; this song was published seven years later: Fred Fisher’s music with Alfred Bryan’s lyrics. The words form a narrative of a young man attempting to get his girlfriend to go up with him in his flying machine. And, that would take much more daring on her part than one might realize today. The year 1910 was still early days for aviation; most airplanes were still made of wood, wire and fabric and looked liked giant gliders. Supposedly, the Josephine of the song was Josephine Sarah Magner, reputed to be America’s first female parachutist. Magner married Leslie Burt Haddock, whose aviation career started in balloons, and made her first jump in 1905. During the next dozen years, she made more than 500 jumps. Pretty daring!
This arrangement is quirky and an absolute delight to play (and to listen to)! The first half is set in the song’s native ¾ time. The takeoff is the introduction, followed by the chorus, then the verse and again the chorus as the melody loops, rolls and spins through the five instruments. A middle section briefly quotes two other aerialist tunes-He flies through the air with the greatest of ease and Up in the air Junior Birdmen-and serves as a transition to cut time. A swing version of the chorus brings us in for a landing and final fade.
The arrangement begins in the key of C major and changes to G major during the transitional section. Suggested tempo is 76 bpm throughout. The arrangement comprises 202 measures: Horn in F plays the most notes, followed by Trombone and Tuba, while Trumpets get off relatively lightly. All notes are well within the normal playing range of the instruments; Trumpet 1 does, however, play A above its staff several times.
Completed in 2021, performance time for Come, Josephine in My Flying Machine runs about 3 minutes, 45 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge; contact him directly at lessmith61@bellsouth.net. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the search box. (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.)

Composed by Josquin des Prez. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Contest,Festival,Instructional,Renaissance,Wedding. 50 pages. Jmsgu3 #678267. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1073999).

Josquin des Prez (c.1450-1521) was a composer of the Renaissance period, widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time. His compositions set the standard for polyphonic music and are considered a high point in the history of music. He wrote a wide range of works, including masses, motets, and chansons, and was the first composer to set popular secular tunes as mass movements. His influence can be seen in the works of many later composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, and George Frideric Handel.

Josquin des Prez was a prolific composer of chamber music and duets during the Renaissance period. He wrote several types of chamber music and duets, including madrigals, chansons, and motets. His compositions are characterized by their intricate counterpoint, as well as their harmonic richness and emotional expressiveness. His works often featured two voices in harmony, and he was known to use imitation and complex canonic techniques to create interesting musical textures. Josquin's chamber music and duets are renowned for their complexity and beauty, and they remain some of the most influential and admired works from the Renaissance period.

Josquin Desprez is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the Renaissance period. His innovative use of counterpoint and canon helped to revolutionize the musical landscape of the time. Counterpoint is a technique of combining two or more independent melodies in a way that creates harmony and a cohesive musical texture. Josquin was a master of this technique, often combining multiple voices in complex contrapuntal textures. His use of canon, or round, was also highly influential. Canon involves two or more voices repeating the same melody in different registers and often with different rhythms. Josquin wrote canons in various styles and forms, including the popular “circular canon†and the more complex “strict canon.†He was also an early adopter of the “inverted canon†form, in which the same melody is repeated but in an inverted form. Josquin’s use of counterpoint and canon had a lasting impact on the development of Western music and helped to establish the foundation for many of the musical forms and techniques still used today.
