The four movements, Moderato, Minuet & Trio, Adagio and Allegro molto,  were emerging as Haydn's preferred format and the combination of four string players as a regular quartet eager for repertoire was gaining recognition.This arrangement, for five wind players extends the wind quintet repertoire of the classical period. Players of advanced intermediate and above will, I hope, find the quintet arrangement enjoyable to play.

This is my favorite first movement of all of Haydn's symphonies.  I reduced the forces required, so that a chamber orchestra with single winds (fl, ob, cl, bsn, trpt, horn, trbn) and fewer string players can perform it.  There is a supportive piano part throughout.  Level: advanced intermediate.  Duration: 7 minutes, 5 seconds.

This is not a piano transcription. Clarinet style figurations are chosen from the piano  ones. The range is up to high G in the first Clarinet and Bass Clarinet range is form low E (C also if possible) to high G on the first space above the treble clef. Scored for 3 Bb Clarinets and Bass Clarinet.
