Fragments is a free bass accordion composition in the contemporary genre. It is built upon fragments of several musical motifs that become the glue holding the composition together organically. This piece is dedicated to my good friend Richard Romiti.

So many people have played Rimsky-Korsakov's famous Flight Of the Bumble Bee since it was composed in 1899, that I have never been able to bring myself to play it. Similar to the polka, Flight of the Bumble Bee seems to have a similar predictable stigma attached to accordionists. So I decided to write my own version of this kind of piece as if it were updated to a more contemporary style but still maintaining the very technical wizardry of the original piece...almost as if the offspring of the Bumblebee had written the piece, which is why the subtitle is facetiously listed as Son of a Bee! I had a lot of fun writing this piece and hopefully anyone who purchases it will have just as much fun performing it. The version you hear in this MP3 is being performed on a digital accordion, but that is only to enhance the bass and chords a little. This piece is entirely acceptable on an acoustic accordion and will sound just as great. Enjoy!

This lively little polka is meant for students but is also a very nice polka for any audience. It starts off simply enough in the first two sections in the keys of C and F while utilizing a newer student's comfort zones but then migrates to the key of Bb in the 3rd section with octaves and harmonies that will stretch the skills of newer students, then proceeding to a nice modulation in the 2nd ending of this section before returning to the original melody. This is a great polka for any student at about a grade 3 level, but again, is a tuneful and lively polka that one could play in public as well.

This is a cute little Stradella accordion piece about a Grade level 2 or 3 out of 10. It is meant to literally be a building block for a student's learning, because of the rhythmic and harmonic structure that build upon one another. But this little piece can even be used by a more accomplished player as a polka genre selection as well.

A frequently used joke in music is you'd better C# or Bb!  So this little polka duet tries to capitalize on the humor of that long standing musical joke and uses some purposeful dissonances to emphasize the C#'s and Bb's.  Children really seem to enjoy this piece as a result.  It's a great recital piece for young accordionists.

This is an original accordion composition with the first and last 12 measures being based on the Bach D Minor Concerto theme, but the rest of the polka takes off in a completely different direction outside of that theme. The first two sections almost sound like a frolic from a Pink Panther movie, while the 3rd section explores more jazz harmonies before returning to the Bach theme for the final close. This isn't your grandparents' polka. It's got many unexpected twists and turns and is a lot of fun. The audio and video versions you are hearing here are being performed on a digital accordion. This Sonata was an American Accordionists' Association commission for their 2018 Festival. This piece was written in the Classical style because accordion as it exists today just didn't exist in the time of Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven, which is why accordionists have always had to perform transcriptions of these composers' works. But now with this work, accordionists have their own original composition in the Classical style that is very reminiscent of the works of those composers and represents a challenge to any accomplished free bass accordionist.

This is a lovely and lesser-known little Minuet in G Major written by Back for two keyboards, but this version that is recorded here is arranged for two accordions (one standard bass and one free bass). That's because the free bass accordion part can also be performed by a pianist. In this version, the two accordions together almost sound like a woodwind ensemble and the sonorities are very pleasing to the ear.
