Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1021847). Julius Fu�ík (1872 - 1916) was a famous Austrian-Hungarian military bandmaster, who composed more than 400 pieces during his short lifetime. First of all he was known as a king of marches: His Florentiner March and Entry of the Gladiators had worldwide success, but also some of his overtures and waltzes became very popular. Originally titled La rosa di Toscana, this concert march was composed in 1907. This arrangement was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Tyrol Austria and first performed at this orchestra's premier concert in 1997 in Innsbruck, Austria. It keeps the key of the orchestra version, while most band arrangements transpose a whole tone lower. The work is a memorial. The work was first perfomed by the composer in the short version (less text) at Spectrum in New York,2016 and its first complete performance took place in Berlin 2018 by the composer with the full text, followed by Eastman's 'Hail Mary written for the composer.

This arrangement of his Widdicombe Fair highlights the eccentricity but delightful touch that Harrison possessed, don't be fooled by the light and jaunty opening, this music bites back!! Incidentally, I'm using the new Note Performer programme, its really terrific!!
