It does; however, introduce players to some of the musical aspects found in Latin American and Afro-Cuban music in an accessible way. Written for and premiered by the Sturt Public School Band (near the town of Tumbarumba) this fun work utilises narrow instrumental tessituras, and incorporates simple off off-beat entries, section solis, layered melodies, and a fun bass line that will keep your low woodwind and brass players engaged and audience tapping their feet all the way through! The passionately pastoral introduction section leads into a joyful 6/8 section featuring the two trumpets and a cheeky quote from Handel’s ‘Messiah’. This work is a lovely addition to any program, and not just for Christmas time!
