This is one of the most popular songs of the Eighties, thanks to the Simple Minds and the film “The Breakfast Clubâ€.
The Scottish rock band Simple Minds recorded this song in 1985 for the film which became a cult hit, as did the theme song. The song was written specifically for the movie by songwriters Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff.
Simple Minds were reluctant to perform the song since it was not written by them. But gradually it found its way to the playlist and became one of the highlights of their live shows, when the audience sings “lalalala†for minutes.
This arrangement for accordion orchestra starts in a ‘classical bombastic’ style, on a slower tempo, but picks up the tempo when the typical drum riff starts. There is a lot of dynamic movement: from soft verses, only 2 voices playing, to bombastic crescendo in the choruses.Â
To get your audience participating, the typical ‘break’ from the live performances is also included, repeating the “lalalala†melody. Just encourage them to sing and clap and see what happens! 😊
Have fun with this Eighties Classic!
