With a challenging solo, this piece was written to be very easy for a high school orchestra with few rehearsals, though college, community and professional ensembles may find it to be a charming addition to a concert or recording project. It is a piece you could use to include a good pianist, student or adult, as a guest with your string orchestra. Although written for harpsichord, the solo part could be played on any keyboard, piano or organ. The soloist should adjust dynamics, articulations, and tone colors to best compliment the instrument and accompanying orchestra. It is written in three movements, but the intention is to play through the piece with no stops. You may omit the usual listing of movement tempo markings in your printed program. This cute 2-part song comes from a movie we made at school. The main characters were rivals and even enemies until they had to work together. Then they understood that their differences did not matter very much. Originally a duet, I arranged it for 2-part treble choir. You might divide the choir in half visually and have each side sing to the other, back and forth. This is a big arrangement for a great SSAATTBB choir with male soloist. Move and interact with each other. This is a happy song. Smile and sing to the audience. Make the audience smile. Choir is a sort of Greek chorus, commenting on and reacting to the soloist. By the way, Corona Del Mar High School Madrigal Singers, the first choir to sing this, used two soloists; two guys competing for attention.
