String Orchestra - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.963579 Composed by Marsha Chusmir Shapiro. Jewish. Score and parts. 28 pages. Marsha Shapiro #3864965. Published by Marsha Shapiro (A0.963579). Grade 2.5 string orchestra:  Klezmer music was the tradition of Eastern European Jewish secular musicians who played for weddings and other celebrations in the 16th through 19th centuries, with very expressive melodies which mimicked the human voice (crying and laughing). In the early years authorities prohibited the playing a very loud music, so stringed instruments and accordion formed the basis of the ensemble. Later clarinets and trumpets were added, and today, revival groups add any instrument they wish. The name zemer comes from the Hebrew 'to make music' and this composer's maiden name, Chuzmir, was Chu-zemer, meaning 'one who makes music.'.

Instrumental Duet Bassoon,Clarinet,Instrumental Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.723143 Composed by Tradition Klezmer. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (ASCAP). Concert,Jewish,World. Score and parts. 19 pages. Joel Jacklich #4320169. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.723143). Originally commissioned by cellist Marty Steinberg as an encore for a performance with clarinetist Mitch Sturman at a concert in Philadelphia at Congregation Beth 'El given on November 4, 2018, the piece has been re-scored for clarinet and bassoon. The three tunes are Long live the nigun,  Bublitschki, and Hopke  In Long live the nigun (nigun meaning tune), the melody is evenly split between clarinet and bassoon.  The popular Bublitschki (bagels) is presented in a quasi canonic form, each restatement being slightly varied.  Hopke (literally hop) is a fast dance culturally derived from the hopak.  The bassoon carries the entire melody with clarinet accompaniment.
