Accordingly, we are fortunate to have a rich record of the musical style of the time. Silver Wedding first appeared in a 1915 recording by Abe Elenkrig’s Orchestra. Elenkrig was born in Ukraine, which may point to the origins of the tune. Silver Wedding is in a Bulgar style, a happy piece designed to escort the newly-weds from the ceremony to the feast. The three tunes are Long live the nigun,  Bublitschki, and Hopke  In Long live the nigun (nigun meaning tune), the melody is evenly split between clarinet and bassoon.  The popular Bublitschki (bagels) is presented in a quasi canonic form, each restatement being slightly varied.  Hopke (literally hop) is a fast dance culturally derived from the hopak.  The bassoon carries the entire melody with clarinet accompaniment.
