                                                 L’AMORE STERILE

 

Eravamo così giovani

Senza niente per cui vivere

Strade vuote e senza fine

Lì ,davanti a noi

 

Se mi chiedevano :cosa farai da grande?

Mi mettevo a ridere

Perché era già una gran fortuna sopravvivere

Gli anni davanti a me, un’agonia terribile

 

Tu che mi dicevi :Sai,  andrebbe meglio se c’è lei

E piano piano si insinuò nei giorni miei

 

Ed era sempre lì

A consolare ed asciugare le mie lacrime

Con i  suoi brividi lei mi faceva credere

Di essere unica e speciale

Così forte e eccezionale

senza mai capire che

 

L’amore sterile

che ci avvolgeva tutti quanti in caldi bozzoli

per trasformarci poi in farfalle senza scrupoli

ma quanto vive una farfalla, solo un giorno e morirà

Rimane il  senso di oppressione

This quartet for flute and string trio was commissioned by and dedicated to the Hélios Ensemble of Paris. Freely inspired by the poem of the same name by Charles Baudelaire, this quartet in three movements is derived essentially from the slow motif which begins the works, which generates most of the musical material which follows. The style is more linear than harmonic. The four-part invention which opens the work is followed by the second section (played without interruption) which is a kind of long suspended melody. The third movement is a quick scherzo with a final evocation of the opening motif before a brief coda. Gente che invade le strade

Siamo d’estate e la neve cade

Nell’aria oscuri presagi

Lancette ferme negli orologi

Oltre l’orizzonte non posso guardare

Una stella che brilla è già pronta a morire

Il sole e la luna, che sta succedendo?

Insieme nel cielo , è la fine del mondo

Sei pronto a pentirti di tutti i peccati?

La gente impazzita, va in cerca dei preti

Chi piange, chi ride, chi canta , chi prega

campane suonate, tamburi rullate

è giunta la fine per l’umanità

Non mi aspettavo che tutto finisse

Questo è il primo giorno dell’Apocalisse

Io che sono astemia mi riempio il bicchiere

Se devo morire, non voglio capire

E scendo in pista per l’ultima danza

Mentre lo tzunami si innalza ed avanza

Fra tutta la gente non cerco che te

Ma tu dove sei? Non vieni da me?

Sul mio pianoforte , accordi che non si armonizzano

Sogni, come cenere, che piano poi svaniscono

Chiudo questi occhi, sono stanca di combattere

Non è sempre facile

Bevo le mie lacrime

 

Nel mio sogno è notte

ed  i miei passi che rimbombano

Ombre di rimpianto che nel buio mi accarezzano

Tu sei dietro me, il tuo respiro inquina l’aria mia

Non ti ho ancora visto ma

So che ti conosco già

 

Sei l’acchiappasogni che forma non ha

so che mi aspettavi e ora sono qua

dai ,distruggili i sogni miei

avanti, sfogati, da quanto lo vuoi?

Frughi tra i pensieri miei

Le insicurezze sfrutterai

I punti deboli, le paure mie

Son moltitudini

Ma dimmi le tue

 

Non temere

Se la notte è scura

e l’Acchiappasogni

ti fa un po’ paura

Non ti addormentare

Non lo fare entrare

Se sei sveglio i sogni tuoi

Non potrà rubare

Dormi e sogna

mio malato amore

dalle tue braccia mi vedrai svanire

lui vive di tormento, si ciba di rimpianto,

quando arriva tutti i sogni

porta via col vento

 

sento solo freddo e questo sogno mi dà i brividi

la spensieratezza cede il posto all’inquietudine

strani personaggi con le maschere impassibili

sfilano davanti a me, rivoglio le mie favole, 

 

cerco tra la nebbia una strada , la mia retta via

ma l’Acchiappasogni prende forma ed ha la faccia mia

guardo il mio riflesso , in uno specchio ,e sono proprio io

tutto acquista un senso e poi

finalmente so chi sei

 

io, un acchiappasogni

che vive a metà

sospesa in un limbo

tra sogno e realtà

e si confondono

i sensi miei

a chi appartengo mai? Rispondermi puoi?

 

tengo il mio sogno stretto in mano

un aquilone che vola lontano

perché raggiungerlo io non vorrei

ciò che desidero non finisce mai

 

Non temere se la notte è scura

Anime fluttuanti  non fanno più paura

Sei tu il solo nemico che devi evitare

Se tutti i tuoi sogni vuoi realizzare

Giro, giro tondo

Non ho un posto nel mondo

Non sono di nessuno e non inciampo nel cammino

Ma basta un po’ di vento

E affiora il mio tormento

L’Acchiappasogni che lo sa

Guardo l'ultimo mio fiore

perde il suo profumo

ed io non so che fare

lo proteggo col calore

di quest'altra storia che ho da raccontare

 

creature sole e disperate

tante cicatrici da rimarginare

una strega e un lupo

non lo sanno ancora

che i loro destini stanno per unire

 

ed inizia questa storia magica

dolce come antica favola

in un bosco senza luogo e senza età

fuori dalla realtà

 

ed il tempo è fermo e non si muove un alito

ed il cuore , esplode e salta un battito

e guardarsi è riconoscersi

come non essersi perduti mai

 

ed il lupo che è ferito

una rosa bianca in rossa ha trasformato

perde sangue insieme a gocce di dolore

i suoi occhi rossi bruciano d'amore

 

e la strega invece si nasconde

perchè non è bella e no, non è importante

a nessuno al mondo è mai appartenuta

ed una carezza non l'ha mai sfiorata

 

lei lo cura e gli accarezza l'anima

lui la guarda e la sua rabbia domina

ed un anno dura solo un attimo

persi nell'eternità

 

ed il lupo le racconta favole

e la strega fa pozioni magiche

e si scambiano promesse inutili

che la notte custodirà

 

e lei ballerà

nuda danzerà

ed il lupo col suo cuore in mano

steso accanto al fuoco che si accende piano,

così liberi

senza ostacoli

e si specchiano nel lago magico

e non lo sentono quel freddo brivido

non durerà, non lo senti anche tu?

freddo intorno a noi

 

Abracadabra da bruco a farfalla

alakazam!! e sono anch'io bella

non vi chiedete il come e il perchè

ho incominciato a parlare di me

cade la neve

ma siamo in agosto

e non c'è cosa

che trovi un suo posto

questa mia musica parla da sè

questa è la fiaba più strana che c'è

 

io mi fermo qui

finirà così

non posso raccontare

la fine di un amore

che scritta ancor non è

 

io mi fermo qui

nel vuoto e nell'assenza in questi giorni miei

silenzio ed incostanza nei sentimenti tuoi

il fiore muore già

 

vai lupo vai

non pensare più a lei

dal tuo branco tornare dovrai

e allora scappa

 

strega potrai

trasformarti se vuoi

cambia ruolo

da attrice che sei

e nuovi fiori avrai

 

passo i giorni dentro il buio in caverne di rimpianto

li miscelo con pozioni e trasformo tutto in pianto

come un gatto nella notte

cerco il cibo tra i rifiuti

senza sole, senza luce

nessun dio che qui mi aiuti

 

corpo e spirito ammaccato

come un vetro conficcato

dentro al povero mio cuore

il ricordo di un amore

mai vissuto veramente

così vivo nella mente

è l'istinto mio animale

che mi spinge a farmi male

 

mentre un altro sogno muore

la strega nel lago si fa scivolare

l'acqua la lambisce piano

nei suoi occhi il lupo che ormai è già lontano

Grove has always loved this particular version of the 1964 Milt Gabler and Bert Kaempfert instrumental song (made popular by Nat King Cole), and she has created this shortened version for use as a quick upbeat interlude or concert encore. Velocity Handbell Ensemble is performing this piece at its 20th anniversary concert in May 2023 and may be able to post a video on its YouTube channel.

Un’equilibrista io Tra il bene e il male

Senza protezione mai

Cercando il sole

Ed il circo sotto me

Mi sembra vuoto

Facce senza volto che

Tolgono il fiato

Assordante quel brusio

Di chi ha pagato

Un biglietto per lo show

Tutto esaurito

Cerco invano di volare ma ho le ali rotte e non le so spiegare

Intreccio i miei capelli per intrappolare tutta la tristezza e farla scomparire

Sotto fiumi di parole mentre inciampo e cado sta spuntando il sole

La mia vita scorre, tutta da rifare,

Sabbia tra le dita, e non la puoi fermare

Spiccherò l’ultimo volo io senza più rete mi avvicino al suolo

Ces atomes de feu qui sur la Neige brillent,

The piece begins with a dark, foreboding, expressive cello solo motif symbolizing death’s existence. Then it takes an epic climactic build to convey life’s journey with a sense of overcoming adversity as one does throughout life. The strings and woodwinds herald a sweeping triumphant melody while the brass rise gloriously heralding the joys of life. However, the return to the opening theme in the closing represents death’s natural, respectful inevitability, concluding this life as a step to moving onward to the hereafter.

Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (L. 86), known in English as Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, is a symphonic poem for orchestra by Claude Debussy, approximately 10 minutes in duration. It was composed in 1894 and first performed in Paris on 22 December 1894, conducted by Gustave Doret.

The flute solo was played by Georges Barrère.

The composition was inspired by the poem L'après-midi d'un faune by Stéphane Mallarmé. It is one of Debussy's most famous works and is considered a turning point in the history of Western art music as well as a masterpiece of Impressionist composition. Pierre Boulez considered the score to be the beginning of modern music, observing that the flute of the faun brought new breath to the art of music.

Debussy's work later provided the basis for the ballet Afternoon of a Faun choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky and a later version by Jerome Robbins.
