Piano,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792527 Composed by Georges Bizet. Arranged by Ralph Sauer. 20th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and part. 44 pages. Gordon Cherry #5008325. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792527). The Chants du Rhin (Songs of the Rhine), a cycle of six pieces, based on poems by Joseph Méry, were written in 1865, and Bizet performed two of them on 16 April 1866 at a soirée of the Beaujolais Philharmonic Society. The songs are grouped symmetrically around La bohémienne as the central piece, framed by two meditatively yearning pieces (in E and D flat major) and two vividly exuberant ones (similarly in E and D flat major), with L’aurore serving as an introduction. In this cycle Bizet takes up the theme of the gypsy girl which had already entered European music in the operas The Bohemian Girl by the Irish composer Michael William Balfe and Verdi’s Il trovatore, as well as in Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsodies for piano. Bizet will return to it one year later in La jolie fille de Perth and ten years later in Carmen. The fourth piece Les confidences shows similarities in tonality, structure and motifs to the middle part of the third movement of Chopin’s Sonata in B minor.

Osman Pasha is in love with his slave, the young Émilie, but she rejects him, telling him she was about to be married when a group of brigands abducted her. Osman urges her to give up hope that her fiancé is still alive (Air: Il faut que l'amour s'evole) but Émilie refuses to believe this is true. The sky turns dark as a storm brews; Émilie sees the violent weather as an image of her despair (Air: Vaste empire des mers). A chorus of shipwrecked sailors is heard (Chorus: Ciel! de plus d'une mort). Émilie laments that they too will be taken captive. She recognises one of the sailors as her fiancé Valère. Their joy at their reunion is tempered by sadness at the thought they are both slaves now. Osman enters and is furious to see the couple embracing. However, unexpectedly, he announces he will free them. He too has recognised Valère, who was once his master but magnanimously freed him. Osman loads Valère's surviving ships with gifts and the couple praise his generosity. They call on the winds to blow them back to France (Duet and chorus: Volez, Zéphyrs). The act ends with celebratory dances as Valère and Émilie prepare to set sail.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533321 Composed by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing. 20th Century,Concert,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2343119. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533321). A setting by Leguerney of a poem by Marceline Desbordes-Valmore.

Brass Quintet Bass Trombone,Horn,Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1292501 Composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully. Arranged by Noah Bromberg. Baroque,Chamber,Classical,Early Music,Medieval. 9 pages. Noah Bromberg #883053. Published by Noah Bromberg (A0.1292501). Le Bourgeois gentilhomme (French pronunciation: [lÉ™ buÊÊ’wa ʒɑ̃tijÉ”m], translated as The Bourgeois Gentleman, The Middle-Class Aristocrat, or The Would-Be Noble) is a five-act comédie-ballet – a play intermingled with music, dance and singing – written by Molière, first presented on 14 October 1670 before the court of Louis XIV at the Château of Chambord by Molière's troupe of actors. Subsequent public performances were given at the theatre of the Palais-Royal beginning on 23 November 1670.[1] The music was composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully, the choreography was by Pierre Beauchamp, the sets were by Carlo Vigarani and the costumes were done by the chevalier d’Arvieux.Le Bourgeois gentilhomme satirizes attempts at social climbing and the bourgeois personality, poking fun both at the vulgar, pretentious middle-class and the vain, snobbish aristocracy. The title is meant as an oxymoron: in Molière's France, a gentleman was by definition nobly born, and thus there could be no such thing as a bourgeois gentleman. This orchestration for brass quintet has been adapted to accomodate modern instrumentation, while preserving the original intent of the composer. the piece has been transposed down a whole step from the original key, and slight modifications to the individual parts have been adjusted. No modifications to the voicings have been made to preserve the composers intent.

Organ - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q22734 Composed by Naji Hakim. This edition: Sheet music. 'Salve Regina', a paraphrase of the Gregorian chant, was created in June 2004. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q22734. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q22734). Naji Hakim, born in Beirut in 1955, is counted among the most important of present-day organists and organ composers. He studied organ with Jean Langlais at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, was organist at Sacré-Cœur in Paris from 1985-93 and then succeeded Olivier Messiaen as organist at the Église de la Trinité. He gives concerts throughout the world, works as a professor at the Conservatoire de Musique in Boulogne, and holds a visiting professorship at the RoyalAcademy in London. In his organ works, Naji Hakim often draws his thematic material from the Gregorian chant, thesaurus of the Roman Catholic Church, which is regarded as essential part of the liturgy even by Vatican II. This paraphrase of the antiphon to the virgin, 'Salve Regina', is based on the plainsong theme (solemn tone). The Gregorian line is unchanged; it evolves slowly above an expressive harmony. The text of the prayer is underlined by the meditative, soft and peaceful character.
