Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.998883 Composed by Robert A. Howard. 21st Century,Contemporary,Standards. Score. 9 pages. Robert A. Howard #6486865. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.998883). Porthleven is based on the 1951 painting, of the same name, by Cornish artist Peter Lanyon, which is held in the collection of Tate St. Ives. The artwork is a haphazard abstract representation of the coastal town of Porthleven, near Helston, on the fringe of the Lizard Peninsula. The painting depicts the town's unusual feature of three inter-connected harbours, as well as a cross on a tower, which likely refers to the church. The work is formed in three sections, as a relation to the three harbours. It explores the notion of bell-tones, and even of change-ringing, in reference to the aforementioned church bell tower. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for more advanced pianists, including students and professionals. Duration: 8 minutes 00 seconds.Registered with PRS (Performing Rights Society, UK).Composer's website: www.roberthowardmusic.co.uk

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.841364 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn, Samuel Arnold, and William H. Cummings. Arranged by Michele Galvagno. Christian,Christmas,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 18 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #6098157. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.841364). This year's Christmas publication choice fell on a song very dear to me: Hark! The herald angels sing. The text, inspired by Luke’s Gospel (2:14), appears for the first time in a collection of Christmas carols called Hymns and Sacred Poems in 1739, jointly written by Charles Wesley (1707-1788 ) and George Whitefield (1714-1770), two of the founding members of the Methodist movement. The version we know today is the one adapted by William H. Cummings (1831-1915) from the section Vaterland, in deinen Gauen of the Festgesang zum Gutenbergfest, WoO 9, by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809-1847). The story, however, is more complex and articulated than that. The original version of the text, written by Wesley, bearing the title Hymn for Christmas-Day, had received only slow and solemn music for its verses, music now almost completely discarded. Also, his original opening lines were Hark! How all the welkin rings / Glory to the King of Kings .The version that has been passed to us is the result of alterations made by different hands, especially those of Whitefield, who changed the initial couplet into the one we know today. In 1840-one hundred years after the publication of Hymns and sacred Poems-Mendelssohn composed a cantata commemorating Johann Gutenberg’s invention of movable-type printing. The English musician William H. Cummings finally adapted Mendelssohn’s music around 1855 in order to fit the music to the verses and give it its present look.In this edition we propose the version that every listener expects to hear when reading the title on the programme and, immediately after, one of the few original versions that have reached us in their entirety, that is the one set to music by Samuel Arnold (1740-1802) and available today in The British Minstrel, and Musical and Literary Miscellany, vol. 3, published in 1843.The proposed instrumentations are those of the classical string quartet and the cello quartet. Both variants are very simple to perform and are certainly suitable for small string ensembles formed in musical schools. In the cello quartet version, the only relatively complex part is that of the first cello, which should be left to the teacher or to a student able to play up to the 7th position without excessive troubles.I hope this music can bring you the serenity that made me prepare it.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.769546 Composed by Ronald Beckett. 20th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional. Score. 19 pages. Ronald Beckett #377182. Published by Ronald Beckett (A0.769546). The Octatonic Suite No. 1 for solo piano was written specifically for the 2002 Arcady CD A Beckett Miscellany. It draws upon the Baroque dance suite structure which by its very design provides contrast from one movement to the next. The stylised dances of this suite follow essentially this anticipated arrangement and its seven pieces are indeed all rooted in F. Of the modes of limited transposition favoured by composers since the early 1900s, the octatonic scale, which alternates whole and half steps, is probably the most useful in that it is able to suggest a full range of harmonic and melodic sonorities. This is a fun and not too difficult suite that pianists enjoy very much. This edition is arranged so as to facilitate page turns.

Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.928610 Composed by Ronald Beckett. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Instructional. Score. 8 pages. Ronald Beckett #534390. Published by Ronald Beckett (A0.928610). These pieces appear on the Arcady CD “A Beckett Miscellany†from 2002. Listening to these charming suites, epilogues, fantasias, dances, toccatas, and trios by Canadian composer Ronald Beckett makes one realize just how far the neo-tonal counter-revolution has come. Written over a 23-year period, these are cheery, player-friendly 'works to be shared' (in the composer's words) employing baroque counterpoint, occasional minirealist rhythms, and lots of diatonic tunes. Arcady, a chamber group founded by Beckett himself, plays with bubbly energy. -American Record Guide If Ron Beckett's music is half as much fun to write as it is to hear, he must go around smiling all the time -Richard Todd, Ottawa Citizen.
