Edward Elgar's well known Nimrod variation from the Enigma Variations is arranged here for brass quintet with organ and  timpani (optional). Elgar's original key of E flat major is used and this requires the two Trumpet and French Horn players to be able to manage and control their higher register. The phrasing indicated on the score is to encourage a legato performance and the organ part is on two staves but with an independent Pedal part. The full score has all the individual parts attached and the performance duration is in excess of three minutes. Published by Barber Music Company (A0.915672).      Here is an easy piece to learn musically.  The theme is the eternal rest of heaven which is expressed in a beautiful lyric set to a plain but beautiful melody.  The accompaniment is intentionally simple with rich, sonorous harmonies, but never loud.  It is identical in each verse, bringing the words into primary focus.        Though the piece is easy musically, it require skilled use of mezza voce technic, because the vocal part is to be sung softy throughout the song.   Diction must clear and understandable with sacrificing the purest  legato  possible.      I hope you enjoy singing this song.   Dick Barber,  barberpianoserv@gmail.com.

Then the piece returns to the first section taking it to a conclusionJacaranda is scored for E flat Clarinet, 3 B flat Clarinets, Alto and Bass Clarinet and is in the key of B flat minor (concert) with the middle section in B flat major. The range is around two octaves for all players, and I have tried to keep all parts interesting with shared moments of melodic and rhythmic interest.
