The melodies come from vest telemark where I worked from 2001-2006 as Band Director to Kviteseid Hornmusik. The melodies used in this new march entitled 'The Heroes of Telemark' are songs from Norway, Kviteseidsangen and Fjaasesundsangen are from Vest Telemark in Southern Norway, while Mellom bakker og berg is an old melody by Ludvig Mathias Lindeman (1812-1887). Keith Terrett has re-harmonised and orchestrated these fine melodies into an exciting march, in honour of the gallant 'Heroes of Telemark'. The exact date is unknown, but it's for sure before the reformation. The story has some similarities with Tundalls Vision, that served as an inspiration for Dante's inferno.From wikipedia: The protagonist, Olav Ã…steson, falls asleep on Christmas Eve and sleeps until the twelfth day of Christmas. Then he wakes, and rides to church to recount his dreams to the congregation, about his journey through the afterlife. The events are in part similar to other medieval ballads like the Lyke Wake Dirge: a moor of thorns, a tall bridge, and a black fire. After these, the protagonist is also allowed to see Hell and some of Heaven. The poem concludes with specific advice of charity and compassion, to avoid the various trials of the afterlife.

It is believed he was from Essex, and that he studied law in London in the 1550s, where he also took part in the literary and theatrical life of Gray’s Inn. His “Cast Off All Doubtful Care,� could be viewed as an early example of metaphysical poetic style, with its elaborate use of metaphor and imagery. Kindlemarsh evidently became known to William Byrd, who first set this poem to music. Byrd’s setting was published in 1589, in a collection of works by the English composer entitled “Songs of Sundrie Natures.�.
