Woodwind Ensemble Bassoon,Double Reed Quartet,English Horn - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1266448 Composed by Solage. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Holiday. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #859185. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1266448). Solage's ballade Le basile de sa propre nature is a significant work in the history of medieval music. Here are some of its historical significances:1. It is one of the twelve surviving works attributed to Solage, a French composer who lived in the late 14th century. Solage's works are known for their complex rhythms, intricate harmonies, and expressive melodies.2. Le basile de sa propre nature is a four-voice ballade that features a text about the mythical creature known as the basilisk. The lyrics describe the basilisk as a monster that kills everything it sees with its deadly venom. The music is characterized by its intricate rhythms and harmonies, which reflect the text's vivid imagery.3. The ballade is preserved in the Chantilly Codex, a manuscript that contains a collection of French secular music from the late 14th century. The Chantilly Codex is one of the most important sources of medieval music, and it provides valuable insights into the musical practices of the time.4. Le basile de sa propre nature is an example of the Ars subtilior style, which was a highly experimental and complex musical style that emerged in the late 14th century. This style was characterized by its use of intricate rhythms, complex harmonies, and unusual notational practices. The Ars subtilior style was highly influential in the development of later musical styles, and it remains an important part of the medieval musical canon.Overall, Solage's ballade Le basile de sa propre nature is a significant work that reflects the complex and experimental musical practices of the late 14th century. Its vivid imagery, intricate rhythms, and complex harmonies make it a valuable contribution to the medieval musical canon.Lyrics:All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. He is a monster of great power,And he is feared by all who know him.He is a creature of the earth,And he is a master of death. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly. He is a creature of the night,And he is a master of the dark.He is a monster of great might,And he is feared by all who hear his name. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly.Solage was a French composer and probably also a poet who lived in the late 14th century. He composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, which is the principal source of music of the ars subtilior, a manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the century. Solage is an obscure composer, and aside from what can be deduced from the pieces attributed to him in the Chantilly Codex, nothing else is known about him. There are several interpretations of his name, and it is not clear whether his first name was Jean or Charles.  The ars subtilior was a manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the 14th century. It was characterized by complex rhythms and pitch, and it was a transitional period between the late medieval and Renaissance periods. Solage was one of the composers who fit into this school, and he composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, which is the principal source of music of the ars subtilior. Stylistically, Solage's works exhibit two distinctly different characters: a relatively simple one usually associated with his great predecessor and elder contemporary Guillaume de Machaut, and a more recherché one, complex in the areas of both pitch and rhythm, characteristic of the ars subtilior.

Published by kerry barnes (A0.969748). Dicken's It's Christmas! A fun Christmas choral piece for any choir to sing!! Piano part 'really easy' too!! Very playful and festive. Based on the Christmas stories of Charles Dickens ...eg  A Christmas Carol with Ebeneezer and Jacob, Tiny Tim etc. Very catchy chorus in true Gilbert and Sullivan style!  Lots of 'unison' singing with NO harmonies to battle with! The chorus is men and women in Call and Response mode. Other Dickensian characters include Fagin, Nancy, Bill, Bullseye, Havisham's, Mr and Mrs Bumbles.  Two verses in 'spoken words' where soloists can indulge in their acting abilities too!!  The Coda Finale includes Descant parts mimicking London Bells in augmentation, whilst the piano part bulks up a bit with strong double octaves but slowly so still easy to play and finishing with everyone shouting aloud BAH HUMBUG!!

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1259347 Composed by Charles Creath. Arranged by Rodney D. Chism, Sr. 20th Century,Jazz,Praise & Worship,Spiritual. Score and Parts. 41 pages. Rodney D. Chism, Sr. #852616. Published by Rodney D. Chism, Sr. (A0.1259347). Goin' Up Yonder is a famous gospel tune typically played a funeral services. This arrangement is dedicated to Jazz Educator & Saxophonist Jeff Huddleston. In 2014, he passed away, and this tune was performed at his funeral services. As a gospel Saxophonist, this was his favorite song to perform during church services. This gospel Saxophone feature allows the 1st Alto Saxophonist to perform with many liberties open up. The arrangement is free-flowing. However, the rest of the ensemble acts as a gospel choir backing up the soloist at letter D. Also, allow the drummer to take us to church from the letter D to the end. All four (4) notes, two (2) measures before the end must be conducted, giving the soloist an open cadenza before the last note.

Large Ensemble Choir - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899601 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by C Blankenship. Baroque. Score and parts. 81 pages. C Blankenship #4984983. Published by C Blankenship (A0.899601). Messiah (HWV 56) is an English-language oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel, with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens from the King James Bible, and from the version of the Psalms included with the Book of Common Prayer. It was first performed in Dublin on 13 April 1742 and received its London premiere nearly a year later. After an initially modest public reception, the oratorio gained in popularity, eventually becoming one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music. Handel's reputation in England, where he had lived since 1712, had been established through his compositions of Italian opera. He turned to English oratorio in the 1730s in response to changes in public taste; Messiah was his sixth work in this genre. Although its structure resembles that of opera, it is not in dramatic form; there are no impersonations of characters and no direct speech. Instead, Jennens's text is an extended reflection on Jesus Christ as Messiah. The text begins in Part I with prophecies by Isaiah and others, and moves to the annunciation to the shepherds, the only scene taken from the Gospels. In Part II, Handel concentrates on the Passion and ends with the Hallelujah chorus. In Part III he covers the resurrection of the dead and Christ's glorification in heaven. Handel wrote Messiah for modest vocal and instrumental forces, with optional settings for many of the individual numbers. In the years after his death, the work was adapted for performance on a much larger scale, with giant orchestras and choirs. In other efforts to update it, its orchestration was revised and amplified by (among others) Mozart. In the late 20th and early 21st centuries the trend has been towards reproducing a greater fidelity to Handel's original intentions, although big Messiah productions continue to be mounted.
