This is an arrangement of Paranoid by Black Sabbath for Flute Quartet.  I've always wanted to know what power chords would sound like on a Flute and decided to arrange Paranoid to find out. I am very pleased with the results and hope that you agree. There are two ways that this arrangement can be played that can get two sounds. Playing it as written will give a medieval sound, which is what the MP3 file sounds like. The second option is to add Flute Beatboxing. Whenever a part has Quarter notes jumping 5ths (measure 5 Flute 3) the performer instead of playing normally can use strong Puh and Caa articulations to sound like a drum kit. I have attached a video using this technique to play the super mario bros theme to better describe what I mean by Flute Beatboxing. There is also an optional Jet Whistle in Flutes 1 and 2 in measure 20. Both techniques create a unique sound that accurately reflects the source material as well as giving musicians more expressive capabilities.  At this time, I have been unable to attach individual parts. Geared toward university students and professionals. May be a bit difficult for beginners and even intermediate players. The key has been altered to make it in a slightly more comfortable range for trombone, although it maybe sits a bit high in the melodic parts and a bit low in the bassline at times. Melody and bassline get switched around a lot between parts. Makes it more fun and interesting, but requires some skill in all ranges by all players. Doesn't go below a low E, so you should be able to play without a trigger, but I've been told it can get squirrelly down there without one for some players, so... yeah.I had some consultation with a couple trombone player friends about how to best adapt my horn quartets to trombone, but I'm not a trombone player, I'm a horn player, so if you purchase this and notice any errors (notational, range, clef, etc.) that could be pretty easily fixed, let me know! A fun and light-hearted piece. Why the hummingbird? Those cute, little, delicate creatures that just want to go about their business admiring the flowers. After living in Costa Rica for some time it couldn’t be farther from the truth, they are aggressive birds that pick a fight with anything that comes into their territory. But let’s talk about this concerto. It first began with the composer’s desire to write a concerto for flute. Influenced by the 3/8 rhythm of the piano sonatas of Alessandro Scarlatti. Hence, the first movement was born with its sort of here, there, and here again quality which reminded me of the many hummingbirds that I’ve seen in Costa Rica. The first movement also contains a quality of jazz to it and is a nice addition to the flute concerto repertoire. The second movement is slow and straight forward. It is relax time that only a flute can evoke. The third is a sort of Mozart styled third Rondo movement. But as you will listen there are some elements that have nothing to do with Mozart. The harmonies are modern as well as some of the rhythmic aspects.
