Dona Nobis Pacem is a very well-known canon that most musicians have played. This arrangement is a fun study in negative harmony - as the title indicates. Negative harmony is the brainchild of Swiss composer, Ernst Levy. The concept, very simply put, is an inversion of chords and notes centered around an axis. The result is often quite interesting. I am only a beginner at negative harmony, and this song was an experiment, but it turned out to be quite lovely.

Hans Sitt might not be a well-known composer to wind players, as he composed music almost entirely for the strings. Born in Prague into a musical family, he was a violinist, violist, teacher, and composer. His father was a well-known violin maker. Although not pushed into music, he chose music as his profession, and was one of the most sought-after violin teachers of his time. Along with many positions as a performing violinist, he was also an orchestral conductor in several European countries.

A dynamic and invigorating cello quintet which builds to a final climax, my ensembles have really enjoyed playing this. Suitable for school and adult ensembles. Parts are of varying levels of difficulty. Cello 5 is a plucked bass part (2 bar loop) utilising first finger and open strings, suitable for a complete beginner. Cello 4 is a two bar quaver loop, allowing the player to sink into a repetitive groove. Cello 3 is more melodic and Cello 2 & 1 require players comfortable in fourth position.
