To be frank, unlike most of my compositions (jigs, reels, hornpipes, strathspeys etc), I had no particular dance form in mind when I wrote it.Appledore is scored for octave mandola (or bouzouki tuned GDAE). It could be played on mandolin, I suppose, but it’s a bit fiddley. Performance tip: try picking this with your finger, rather than with a plectrum; the 2-, 3- and 4-note chords can be played as broken chords, which makes the whole tune rather more interesting (and more of a challenge!).Appledore is a very pretty village in Kent, just north of Romney Marsh. I nearly moved there a few years ago but … didn’t.

Though I hear this as a quartet arrangement, I think it can be used as a Chorus arrangement.  I recommend that in the Intro, in the Bari part, where they have the repeated notes and the one note that goes up a third, keep the upper note at the same mental level as the repeated notes, so there's not a note note note note SKIP, rather note note note note skip. I know directors know that, but, I'm a control freak and love to develop the beauty of music. ALSO, at mm 11 and 19, I give the low note to the Basses, for smooth flow of voices. This is a fun piece and I hope you will try it.

Det är häpnadsväckande på två olika sätt: för oss som kan dragspelsvärlden är det ett faktum att Lars Ek har varit med som professionell dragspelare i snart 20 år, sedan han slutade skolan, för det andra: han har blivit en idol som spelar musik och i en stil som har sina rötter 50 år tillbaka i dragspelsmusikens historia. Man kan säga att Lars Ek, idag 35 år, borde ha varit 85 år, verksam på 30-talet. Själv erkänner han att han känner en slags hemlig längtan tillbaka till en tid då dragspelare var ekvilibrister, då dragspelare spelade på ett briljant sätt, den guldålder det var för all dragspelsmusik över hela världen, en tid som vi aldrig kommer att möta igen. Det är en typ av musik som är historisk men som inte hör hemma på museerna, inte död, det är en typisk musik fylld av liv. Mycket tack vare Lars Ek. Det är en ganska anmärkningsvärd situation. Lars Ek har spelat dragspel länge, han har spelat all typ av musik som kan spelas på dragspel. För bara några år sedan kom han i kontakt med Nils Lind och Ragge Sundquist (två legendariska svenska artister från 30- och 40-talen, båda döda sedan länge – de grundade båda en skola och en stil) och naturligtvis också Frosini. Och då, äntligen, kände Lars Ek att det var just här, i den här stilen, som han hörde hemma. Lars Ek kom äntligen hem. En del slarviga lyssnare säger att Lars Ek kopierar Nils Linds musik. Det är lyssnare som inte lyssnar. Andra säger att Lars är en galning - han spelar på ett dragspel av märket Raggie Sundquist från 1937 och sedan ett par år äger och spelar han också på ett dragspel som en gång ägdes av Pietro Frosini, tillverkat 1927. This arrangement of Never Enough is for concert band with an optional vocal soloist.The work starts out with the simple piano arpeggios that really hooked my ear on the original, before leading into an intimate blend of woodwind timbres and flowing percussive melodies for the first verse. Low Brass lead the work into the first chorus, where a Horn solo carries the emotion to the first full ensemble hit that pushes through until the end of the work where sudden silence and soft, warm extended chord punctuates the piece.This piece was written with advanced high school and higher level musicians in mind. Though the pieces isn't incredibly difficult overall, the range asked of some of the performers and the raw emotion that this work represents demands a level of training. No.2, Mvt.1 also known as the Moonlight Sonata is probably the best known of his compositions.Unlike other arrangements you will find on this site (and other sites) I have taken the unusual step of removing a large proportion of the triplet accompaniment figure, which is found in the original piano composition.Other arrangers for brass quintet tend give this figure, as a rule, to the horn or trombone who play the triplets all the way through the piece.I have tried to arrange it as though it had been originally written for the brass  quintet.My arrangement retains some of the triplets (the rising arpeggios) and sometimes uses the triplets on one note to add dramatic effect.The net result is more of a chorale, but I feel it does retain the forward movement from the original with the use of moving staccato crotchets (quarter notes) I have transposed this arrangement into D minor from the original C sharp minor.

The two nocturnes were composed immediately after major surgery, against a deadline, and, despite the music sounding unlike anything I have written before, I decided to keep them exactly as they turned out.2010 is a Chopin year, and I made this pair of nocturnes into a little tribute, after playing through and listening to most of his output. Never before had I composed under these drugged conditions – the musical dimensions were enormously exaggerated, with each interval and each phrase being elongated out of all proportion, and the whole few minutes filling the whole of time and space.The orchestration, for piano quartet, was influenced by the very neo-classical feel of the chamber version of the concertos, and the harmonic language very much the result of pondering Chopin’s very individual take on J.S Bach.They are dedicated to James MacMillan and Amelia Freedman respectively.Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (2010).

It was composed specifically for guitar, and this copy comes complete with guitar tab as well as traditional notation. I've used an interesting tuning combination for the piece, which is why it also comes with tab, to make everything clearer. Both of the E strings are tuned up by 1 semitone to F, and the B string is de-tuned by 1 semitone to Bb. The resulting sound is pleasant, and unlike most other music out there on the classical guitar market, making it a lovely little piece to learn - and of course to serenade an infant with! It's approximately Grade 4 in standard (ABRSM), so the tuning doesn't make the piece any more difficult to play, and of course, the tab is there to make it crystal clear during the learning process how it is to be played. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I did writing it. Published by Blaze Scheuerman (A0.1047338). The Doomsday Clock is a piece that primarily shows anxiety and being overwhelmed. I composed this piece my senior year of high school. At the time I could feel the impending deadline of college piano auditions approaching, and this coupled with a hand injury caused me to be very stressed out and feel that I was unable to put in the time needed to practice and prepare. I chose the name “Doomsday Clock†as I felt that the event that was slowly creeping closer was actually going to be the destruction of my dreams. The intro starts up bleak as the main character feels lost and afraid. The baseline hints at something to come that keeps inching closer and closer. Then at measure 8 it hits him, the thing to come is inevitable and can’t be stopped. He tries to reason with it, but it does not budge. This forces him to go into a mad scuffle in order to keep up and be ahead, as seen in measure 13. What then proceeds is a series of highs and lows, such as in measure 24 where the main character is terrified of what is to come and in measure 33 where he begins to believe he can do it. The piece then modulates to C major, where the main character feels that he is ahead and going to be successful. But every time he states a confident line, it seems to deteriorate or break down. Eventually he leads back into the mad scuffle and reaches his lowest point in measure 74. Here he feels lost and is about to give up when something encourages him to keep on going. It manifests a childlike voice reminding him of why he started this journey in the first place, and it convinces him to not give up and instead keep on going (seen in the Eb major section in the style of the intro). He eventually reaches the end and makes it, almost collapsing at the finish.

Very unusual.This piece makes you stand out as a solo jazz guitarist of all idioms. Some chords are played as triads or dyads or eliminated, and single notes are used. I draw a line over the note if it's the high note of a chord or I use a dot if it's played as a single note, the chord is then in parentheses. I tend to use a minimalist style that keeps the important parts of the music. I also wrote the lyrics under the chords/notes in the B section to help with the timing. This song is in an ABABA format. I love the light, childlike melody! Sounds great on acoustic and electric guitars.

I did record a more upbeat version, Strollin' with B, with synthesized instruments, but this is how I tend to think of the piece: in its original, tender, beautiful, graceful form.
