As a child, she was always mature beyond her years, demonstrating the responsibility, dependability, and drive to succeed more commonly associated with an oldest child. And yet, as a teenager her bedroom featured a loft bed with a slide, a giant smiley-face mural on the wall, and an assortment of Care Bears and Sesame Street characters.
