Commissioned by All Classical Portland radio network to mark the occasion of the total solar eclipse in 2017, Body of the Moon was first recorded by Erick Vallé (vocal solo), Nancy Ives (violoncello), and Chris Whyte (percussion) with Resonance Ensemble, directed by Katherine FitzGibbon.The piece was broadcast across the Pacific Northwest of the United States as millions experienced the totality of the solar eclipse. The phenomenon of the eclipse is represented by the lyrical cello line as the choir gives voice to the words of Galileo Galilei (1564- 1642): ‘Vedere il corpo della luna/Behold the body of the moon!’ The bass drum represents the vastness of our solar system, and a lone vocal improvisation speaks to the personal experience of this magical moment. Galileo’s other phrase, ‘we had perpetual twilight and never darkness’, is a poetic description of experiencing the eerie phenomenon of a total solar eclipse. The Story is a song released as a single by American folk rock singer Brandi Carlile, written by Phil Hanseroth, from her 2007 album The Story. It was featured in Grey's Anatomy in 2007 and is on Grey's Anatomy Soundtrack album 3 (released September 11). About four years later, a version of the song has been recorded by Grey's Anatomy actress Sara Ramirez and was first presented in the 2011 episode Song Beneath the Song. The track was later covered by LeAnn Rimes for her Remnants album and by Dolly Parton for the charity tribute album Cover Stories. This arrangement for SATB choir and piano is based on Brandie Carliles recording and features some fine tenor solos as well as rich tutti harmonies which all work fine for young and/or intermediate singers. The piano part can also be extended for a rock band.

Hummel, a music publisher in Amsterdam, published a pirated edition of Johann Baptist Vanhal's popular Symphony in D minor. In this edition, the middle two movements were thrown out and replaced with a slow movement for string orchestra. I have taken this movement for string orchestra and basso continuo and arranged it for solo keyboard. The primary thematic material is based on a simple downward lilting gesture. This lilt is sweetened with parallel falling thirds later in movement. This contrasts against the insistance of the secondary melodic material and creates a formal structure that exists between binary form and a rudimentary sonata form.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a song by British rock band Queen, released as the lead single from their fourth studio album, A Night at the Opera (1975). Written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, the song is a six-minute suite, consisting of an introduction, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard rock part and a reflective coda. It is one of the few progressive rock songs of the 1970s to have proved accessible to a mainstream audience. Mercury referred to Bohemian Rhapsody as a mock opera that resulted from the combination of three songs he had written. The song parodies elements of opera with bombastic choruses, sarcastic recitative, and distorted Italian operatic phrases. Lyrical references include Scaramouche, the fandango, Galileo Galilei, Figaro, and Beelzebub, with cries of Bismillah! Although critical reaction was initially mixed, retrospective reviews have acclaimed Bohemian Rhapsody one of the greatest songs of all time, and it is often regarded as the band's signature song.
