Concert Ready is designed to feature your latest batch of new brass players with full Brass Band accompaniment (UK format). Youth bands, schools and music centers will recognize the scenario where your last cohort of new starters has been playing a little while are keen and enthusiastic to take part in their first concert. This work gives them the opportunity to play a fun piece with a band, with any number of their peers (strength in numbers!).

The Brass Band accompaniment is scored with multiple cues to enable performance from non-standard instrumentation and to scale dynamically (play if directed comments) to accommodate the size of the solo group.

The difficultly level for the soloists is Easy/Beginner, whilst the level for the band is aimed at youth bands and above, roughly about American Band Grade 2.

The PDF is in A4 portrait (36 pages) and contains a full score and parts, including 3 percussion parts. The duration of the piece is just over 2 minutes 30 seconds.

O Little Town of Bethlehem is a beloved Christmas carol with an exciting history. It was written by Phillips Brooks in 1868 for the Sunday school children at his Philadelphia parish, Holy Trinity Church, following a pilgrimage to Bethlehem in 1865. The hymn beautifully describes the little town asleep on the December night. The hymn is generally sung to its original tune, St. Louis by Louis H. Redner in the United States, and to Forest Green by Ralph Vaughan Williams in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Ireland. This arrangement is for brass sextet (2 Trumpets, F Horn, 2 Trombones, Tuba & Drum Kit) with additional parts for Horn in Eb, Trombone in treble clef, Euphonium in treble clef and Eb Tuba. 

Arranged in a 'beer keller' style it has been regularly featured by my own Ockoberfest group 'The Lagermeisters'. Suitable for any competent Intermediate group of players this is a great song to get the party up and dancing.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love is a song by the British rock band Queen. Written by Freddie Mercury in 1979, the track is included on their 1980 album The Game, and also appears on the band's compilation album Greatest Hits in 1981. The song peaked at number two in the UK Singles Chart in 1979, becoming the group's first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US in 1980, remaining there for four consecutive weeks. It topped the Australian ARIA Charts for seven weeks. It was the band's final single release of the 1970s.

Having composed Crazy Little Thing Called Love on guitar, Mercury played rhythm guitar while performing the song live, which was the first time he played guitar in concert with Queen. Queen played the song live between 1979 and 1986, and a live performance of the song is recorded in the albums Queen Rock Montreal, Queen on Fire – Live at the Bowl, Live at Wembley '86 and Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live in Budapest. Since its release, the song has been covered by a number of artists. The song was played live on 20 April 1992 during The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, performed by Robert Plant with Queen. The style of the song was described by author Karl Coryat as rockabilly in his 1999 book titled The Bass Player Book.

An arrangement of Little Brown Jug for String Orchestra & Drum Kit.

Little Brown Jug is a song written in 1869 by Joseph Winner, originally published credited to Eastburn (Winner’s middle name).

It was originally a drinking song. It remained well known as a folk song into the early 20th century. Like many songs which make reference to alcohol, it enjoyed new popularity during the Prohibition era. In 1939, bandleader Glenn Miller recorded and broadcast his swing instrumental arrangement of the tune with great success, and the number became one of the best known orchestrations of the American Big Band era His version did not have the lyrics.

In 1939, Glenn Miller and His Orchestra released a hit version of the song on RCA Bluebird, as an A side 78 single, B-10286-A, in a new arrangement by Bill Finegan backed with Pavanne. The recording was an early chart hit for Glenn Miller. The song was performed in Glenn Miller’s Carnegie Hall concert that year and became a staple of the Glenn Miller Orchestra repertoire and a classic of the Big Band era.

The song was featured in and was central to the plot of the 1953 Universal Pictures film biography The Glenn Miller Story starring James Stewart and June Allyson.
