This chart observes the original key and form of the classic recording by Harry James with vocal soloist Helen Forrest. The horn parts closely follow in the footsteps of the original recording, making this a good vehicle to showcase a talented trumpeter. This arrangement is written for a soprano cornet soloist, and is a rousing crowd-pleaser, designed to get the audience clapping along. It was written for, and first performed by, Charlie Welch of Horbury Victoria Band. Whether it is a Christmas piece is up to the concert planner to decide - but it definitely works in a festive programme! The solo part is a guide, which the soloist is welcome to diverge from if desired! In particular, the section between H and K has a free “jazz solo� feel and can be simplified or embellished to suit the player. A soprano duet version is included for use as an unconventional novelty feature.
