I am very passionate about writing music for all instruments, and the world of percussion is hungry for new repertoire. Writing this piece taught me so much about composing for percussion in a way that makes sense to the performers. I’ve always been intimidated by percussion music, and forcing myself to write a piece I’m proud of for percussion has been a journey worth taking. The name comes from the zombies mode in Call of Duty: Cold War. When you “pack-a-punch� the Bullfrog (making it deal more damage) the name changes to “High Anxiety,� which this piece gives me. The harmonies in the marimba are based on an A fully diminished 7th chord, which is a chord with a lot of tension and no resolution.
