Choral Choir (4-Part) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.996561 Composed by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby. Arranged by Rebecca J. Wood. Contemporary. Octavo. 5 pages. Rebecca J. Wood #5324813. Published by Rebecca J. Wood (A0.996561). Hear 30 second clip, beginning at measure 1.  Arrangement about 1 min 30 secs performance time.  This arrangement has a surprise ending, so the title needs to be just Angels.  The chords bring wonderful emotions which climax at m 52, followed by the surprise ending, the heart-swell.  Could be done by YWIH, high school age girls or Women's Choruses.  Use for shows, but not for Competition.  Some churches might allow it for Mother's Day services.  Feedback would be appreciated.  After thinking about ANGELS, I HAVE TO TELL YOU the most important line in the song.  After the Daddy tells the child what angels are, he says, They call them angels in Heaven (beautiful spot in the son), but we call them MOTHERS down here.  Such a tear-jerker, I think!!

Shades of Eltham (Eltham Concert Band - 35 Years of Music) - Concert Band VersionDedicated to Ern and Beattie Shade for their contribution to the Eltham Concert Band. The title of this piece is a play on words, of course, indicating both the Shades themselves and the various shades or moods of the music or even perhaps, the shady bushland setting of the area itself. I composed this piece with a few simple ideas in mind. The letters E and A in the word Eltham suggested to me an interval of a fourth, or the other way around, an interval of a fifth – which are both used in many of entries of the themes and musical motifs throughout the work – especially the brass. There are several variations and counter melodies within the work: a bright two-four march-like theme, probably the Main theme, and a variation of this theme in slower three-four time in a minor key with two counter melodies - representing a gentler contrasting mood. On occasions, two or even three themes play simultaneously. A bridging passage in four-four occurs about the two thirds into the composition leading up to a restatement of the main theme. The final climax or Coda actually has both three four melody against the two-four one resolving in the last few bars in a dramatic way.I hope you enjoy my musical tribute to the Shades. The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer. Now available as an orchestral arrangement as well. See Related Scores.

Instrumental Duet Cello,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.590578 Composed by David McKeown. Folk,Holiday,Love,Wedding. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6212749. Published by David McKeown (A0.590578). Grá, (Irish for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Violin and Cello. This duet is inspired by the Irish sean-nós style of singing. Originally sung unaccompanied in the Irish Gaelic language, in more recent times the melodies have been adapted as instrumentals, harmonised and given accompaniment. The songs are most often about love and loss and Grá aims to capture this melancholy mood.Grá is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. Expressive throughout, the first part of the melody is played above a drone. Simple accompaniment then builds towards a climax before the melody slips away like a distant echo. Players can add their own appropriate ornaments and variations to the melody if they wish. Grá has a performance time of a little over three minutes. Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.973026 Composed by Francis Kayali. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score. 26 pages. Francis Kayali #5718759. Published by Francis Kayali (A0.973026). Composed between January and March 2003, the Suite for Piano was written for a recital by pianist Qi Liu (1976-2017), at Stony Brook University, in March of 2003.The opening of the first movement evokes bells, not unlike those in Rachmaninoff’s Russian Easter (the finale of his First Suite for Two Pianos). This is contrasted with a short and murky rising gesture. The middle section incorporates pianistic patterns (some reminiscent of Debussy), a yearning Iberian melody, and a barely-recognizable snippet of Chopin used for a climax. The murky gesture eventually returns, introducing a triumphant statement of the opening bells.Early on, I had decided the piece should include references to the other pieces on the recital’s program: Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 18 (op. 31, No. 3) and Brahms’s F minor Sonata (op. 5). As soon as I had word from Qi that she was going to play the Beethoven, I immediately wanted to hear it. I wasn’t familiar with the piece, and since I didn’t have a score or a recording of it at home, I decided to download it in MIDI format from the internet. Unbeknownst to me, the computer’s rendition transformed the lively second movement scherzo into a slow-moving hymn which reminded me of the Ode to Joy. I was quite surprised the next morning when I went to the music library and listened to a recording played by a human. Nonetheless, I was drawn to the melody, and I found the slow effect interesting, so I decided to base my middle movement (the slow movement) around the theme of Beethoven’s scherzo, making it the hidden theme for a short set of variations. The end of the movement also contains less direct references to the music of Brahms (very short allusions to the Sonata and to the Variations on a Theme by Haydn). The last movement explores fast and light fingerwork, in a sort of toccata or capriccio, providing a flashy ending to the piece. As in the first movement, the form is A-B-A. Before the return of the first section, a little dance evokes the opening of the piece. (The murky gesture from the first movement also finds its way into this last movement). Each of the three movements experiments at one point with using the sustain pedal in order to create a wash of sound. This effect is used most prominently in the second movement.Movement I: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-NKcs076UIMovement II: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSxkOcdlpiYMovement III: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CntmWYdOA9Y

Piano Trio Cello,Piano,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1142148 Composed by William Heath. Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV,Thriller. 19 pages. William Heath #742526. Published by William Heath (A0.1142148). A Piano Trio, written for the Leeds University Union Music Society Winter Concert Series. Performed by the Hughes Trio featuring Christopher Hughes (Piano), Amy Howe (Violin), and Nikki Kemp (Cello) Programme Notes: This is a rather melodramatic piece that follows the Five Stages of Grief. I first sketched the piece for string quartet after an absolutely horrific interview at the Royal Northern College of Music. Feeling disheartened and dejected, I got home and messily scribbled on some manuscript paper An Elegy for Hopes and Dreams, and started writing this extremely over-dramatic and self-indulgent piece. I had abandoned this piece for an entire year before reviving it and writing the whole piece in just over a week and a half, now reimagined for Piano Trio. The piece starts with an atonal representation of grief before quickly moving into an upbeat Denial section which features a sort of fragile and manic sense of repression as a theme that initially sounds upbeat quickly unravels with whole-tone scales and chromatic movement. A representation of Anger is then seen with the whole trio playing the same melody with a jarring Bb in the harmony. The denial and anger sections repeat and regress before abruptly moving to a Bargaining section in which the original theme, ominously played in the lower piano and cello registers, is juxtaposed with a conjunct, major variation of the same theme in the violin. The Depression section takes the form of a cello solo as I find it to be one of the most emotive and expressive instruments and I take inspiration from Elgar's Cello Concerto, which I angstily listened to on the flight home from my aforementioned interview. A lilting and lamenting cello solo is contrasted with an atonal, aimless piano accompaniment which reflects the topic of depression. The bargaining theme reprises slightly with both strings performing the major variation before leading to the final climax. The Acceptance section sees the principal theme finally fully resolved in a major mode and with diatonic harmony. This is an expressive section as the whole trio plays the same melody with very simple yet emotive harmonic accompaniment underneath. Here the depression theme pairs with the principal theme coming to a final resolution. For individual parts for performance please contact owhcomposer@gmail.com.
