With his permission I later arranged the tune as a piano solo, adding a John Field theme as the basis for the introduction. Years later, after being stricken with cancer, Dick wrote this text to fit the piano arrangement. I then arranged the piece for SATB choir (opt. mixed quartet), and added a light orchestration. Sadly we had to say goodbye to Dick in 2022 as he made the crossing that he had so eloquently anticipated in this text.The demo mp3 is computer-generated, and thus lacks some of the nuance which you would–of course–include in live performance!I will post the orchestration (or String Quartet and Flute or Oboe) separately.

Haydn composed over 100 compositions, each in three movements, for his wealthy employer Nicolas Esterhazy, who played the six-string instrument called a Baryton, which in shape looked much like our modern day cello, but, of course, with six rather the cello four strings. His original scores were composed of three lines: the solo part, an inner filler part for viola and a bass part. I have realized the piano part. These transcriptions were created to give the solo trombonist an experience with classical music. The music is in an elegant style and a joy to perform as arranged by Mr. Trevarthen. The six works included in the collection are as follows: No. 2 in G (Theme and Variations)No. 26 in F No. 49 in F No. 55 in F No. 77 in F No. 95 in B-flat The works are between 6 and 9 minutes in length each and suitable for moderately advanced performers.

Published by Jeremy Cullen (A0.939554). This piece is part of a cycle of works composed as the soundtrack to an imaginary documentary called The World of Eugène Atget. If the film did exist, I’d like to think that this music would make a suitable accompaniment to the French photographer’s haunting images. In 2005 I saw an exhibition of Atget's work at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and was captivated by his photos of Old Paris in the early 20th Century. He viewed his images as documents rather than art but they are beautifully atmospheric and influenced the Surrealists. Of course, this Gymnope�die was also inspired by Erik Satie who lived and worked in Paris around the same time as Atget (although I don't know if they ever met). My recording of this piece can be found on the album Scenes Vol. 1 by Jeremy Cullen, available on on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Amazon.

An infectiously catchy melody make this jazz-style jaunt incredibly fun to play; for Eb or Bb Saxophone (both parts included) and piano. Sunny Blue meanders through various styles; a straight start (mainly 6/8), launching into a groovy swing (following with optional improvisation, or use one of the two written out 'solos' provided). The journey then gravitates to a waltz, before completing its course by ending with a swing ending, and dramatic finish. Sunny Blue has a duration of 3'22 minutes, and is aimed at grade 6/+ players and makes a fantastic concert item. The YouTube video demo shows the whole piece performed on alto sax. You will however receive a universal piano score, and then two saxophone parts (one for Eb, and one for Bb sax).
