Starry Night for a Ramble was popularized in Victorian London by singer and Shakespearean comic Samuel Bagnall in 1873. Â Although an earlier edition from Scotland exists suggesting it was written earlier and perhaps by someone else. Later it was adapted as a popular fiddle tune which is still heard at contra dances today, either as a jig or a waltz. Â This arrangement for mandolin orchestra incorporates the salubrious tune as both a waltz and a jig on a meandering ramble through various keys.
