Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024916 Composed by Manny Cepeda. Contemporary,Jazz,Latin,Standards. Score and parts. 52 pages. Manny Cepeda #6808599. Published by Manny Cepeda (A0.1024916). Manny's main theme of this song is Cuba's port of entry where the slaves were brought to Cuba. The term Matanzas in Spanish means massacre as many of the slaves who were transported to Cuba never got there from their harsh treatment by their captors and the horrible conditions of the ship they were being transported. Manny also uses Afro-beat a rhythm not used by only familiar with it. The rhythm and the minor key Manny uses created a very mysterious and haunting feel. From that feel, he then moves into Afro-Cuban Son to brighten the sadness at the beginning of the song. For your percussionist performing this song, care must be taken to play exactly what is written or your song won't have the correct feeling and impact on your listening audience!

Published by Manny Cepeda (A0.1024915). The word Jam in English means when players perform their solos in a Chart. The idea Manny has created here is a Percussion Jam featuring any of the Afro-Cuban Percussion instruments. Manny picked the Timbales as a guide by performing Afro-Cuban Ad-Lib rhythms. For a novice in Afro-Cuban Music, this written solo would give you plenty of ideas to work with. You can either do the written solo or create one of your own. You must remember that Afro-Cuban Drumming is based heavily on syncopation so, soloing as if you were playing a drumset won't work here. The solo can be shared not only by the Timbales but also by the Congas and Bongo Player. The chart is rich with ostinato breaks of the percussion that tie the phrase of the melody with the song. The breaks must be played as written but if the section creates a break of its own, that will work too. The only requirement is the number of bars for each break must match the chart.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024914 Composed by Manny Cepeda. Contemporary,Jazz,Latin,World. Score and parts. 35 pages. Manny Cepeda #3628527. Published by Manny Cepeda (A0.1024914). There is a saying in Southern California El Mero Mero also know in the United States saying as The Real McCoy. That is the idea expressed on this arrangement. A percussionist (Timbale Player), who is so good, no one is equal to him/her. At the end of the chart, there's a reference to a traditional song of the Mexican Mariachi band, giving more validity to the arrangement. This chart is best suited for advance Junio College bands and College Afro-Cuban/Caribbean Ensembles. It's rich with rhythm from Cuba and Puerto Rico and it requires a complete Afro-Cuban/Caribbean percussion section; Bongos, Timbales, Congas, and CowBell plus a well season singer fluent in Spanish to perform the chart properly. The chart would be a heck of an opener tune for a concert or performance.
