String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.1507040 Composed by Manuel M. Ponce. Arranged by Neil Crossland. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. 18 pages. Neil Crossland #1082427. Published by Neil Crossland (A0.1507040). Manuel Ponce's Intermezzo is a charming work that showcases his ability to blend classical European influences with the distinct musical flavor of his native Mexico. Composed in 1909, the piece is lyrical and graceful, with a flowing melody that evokes a sense of nostalgia and longing. Its simple yet elegant structure makes it a favorite among performers and audiences alike. Ponce, often regarded as the father of Mexican musical nationalism, seamlessly incorporated folk elements into his classical compositions, and while Intermezzo may not explicitly showcase his folk inspirations, its romantic expressiveness and melodic beauty are undeniable.Neil Crossland's arrangement of Ponce's Intermezzo for string orchestra further highlights the work’s emotional depth. By translating the original piano textures into rich, layered string lines, the arrangement offers a new dimension to the piece, allowing the lyrical qualities to shine through in a different instrumental context. The warmth of the strings brings out the lush harmonies, and the subtle dynamic shifts enhance the delicate nuances of Ponce's original composition. This arrangement creates a perfect balance between honoring the composer’s intentions and exploring new sonic possibilities. It adds another layer of versatility to this beloved work, making it accessible to a wider range of performers and audiences.

Small Ensemble Piano,Violin,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.955811 Composed by Manuel M. Ponce. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. 20th Century,Concert,Holiday,Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 8 pages. Scott S. Stewart #6088787. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.955811). In 1912 Mexican composer Manuel M. Ponce traveled to Aguascalientes on vacation and spent an evening looking at the starry night. This inspired him to compose the words and music for the song, Estrellita (Star of Love/Little Star/Petit Astre/Stellina).  The text ‘Star from far away, you know about my love and my suffering…’ has been speculated by many that these lyrics are Ponce’s sentimental expressions for his beloved Mexico as a little star… ‘Because I cannot live without his love.’ Or, it is widely held that the lovely melody of Estrellita came to Ponce in a moment of inspiration while spending a romantic evening with his wife… either scenario could be true.  In 1923 violinist Jascha Heifetz was in Mexico City and realized he didn’t have any work by a Mexican composer on his program.  While in a café, he heard a local musician sing the popular song Estrellita and noted its title on a napkin. Estrellita became one of his favorite encore songs ever since. Scored for solo violin, tenor and piano this trio runs 2:59.

Stewart #6612045. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.955876). Ponce (1882-1948), the founder of Mexican musical nationalism, often incorporated the melodies of traditional folksongs into their music (12 Canciones mexicanas – 1913).  This arrangement is for a 4-part brass ensemble of 2 trumpets and 2 trombones.  Performance time: 4:15. Expand the awareness of Mexican Art Song repertoire through performance.
