The piece was written for the Scapegoat Duo in January 2017 and features rhythmic displacement and contrasting melodic techniques to provide a recital style performance. The pieces make up five individual movements named Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo.The pieces were composed by British composer, Marcus Day, in response to the Scapegoat Duo coming to Bath to perform in a concert series. The pieces are just over three minutes in length in total and are challenging to play. They are perfect for either Saxophone or Marimba recital pieces as are challenging and show off an impressive ability to perform challenging rhythms not only by yourself, but with another performer. There were originally 5 stanzas of German text, here reduced to 4 verses in English with 3 possible permutations of performance. Although intended for solo voice the carol is equally effective sung by a unison choir and also suitable for children's voices.
