It was the debut solo single by Knopfler and charted at number 56 in the UK, number 26 in the Netherlands and 18 in New Zealand. Despite its rather modest chart position in Knopfler's native UK, Going Home remains one of the artist's most popular songs. A supergroup, referred to as Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes, recorded Going Home to support the Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America. The recording, released 15 March 2024, was Jeff Beck's final recording before his death.
