Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1411673 Composed by Martin J. I have always been fascinated by the walls of sheer rock left behind by the construction of theUnited States interstate highway system. To me, it represents both the majesty of nature and theaudacity and ingenuity of the human race. When you approach these sections of road, often youwill see the yellow sign, reading Fallen Rocks or Fallen Rock Zone, warning of the possibilitythat nature will try to reclaim the roadway. In this quartet, I wanted to show both the majesty of the mountains, told in the various choralesthroughout the piece, and the juxtaposition of the possible chaos below. Cars speeding past, notalways safely or politely. Construction zones. Semi trucks. All of these can be heard throughoutthis work. Despite all this activity, it is important to remember that the rocks remain.-.

To be classified as a living fossil (or as I like to call it, a Modern Dinosaur), aspecies must have a clear ancestor in the fossil record that highly resembles ourmodern species. Often these species have few living relatives. (For example, theaardvark is currently the only living member of its genus.) People tend to think ofbirds and reptiles when they think of living fossils, but animals from any group canbe classified as such. In this piece, I have sought to explore these differences.Among these uniquely diverse group of animals are the African Lungfish, with itsability to breathe through special lungs, living in hardened clay burrows during thedry season, awaiting the coming rains; the Shoe-Billed Stork, the largest bird offlight with its icy stare and prehistoric appearance, with an aggressively unusualcall; the Alligator, unchanged for millennia, living side by side with it Kingfisherneighbors, not always peacefully; and the Aardvark, the great nocturnal excavatorof Africa.I have long been fascinated by fossils. The urge to learn as much as I could aboutprehistoric animals has never left me, like it does to most around the age of 10.Paired with my love of zoos, being interested in living fossils only makes sense.A portion of all proceeds from Modern Dinosaur will go to the Henry Doorly Zooand Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska. This facility manages the Species SurvivalProgram (SSP) for Aardvarks for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, theprimary accreditation organization for North America animal collections.

Theyare unfortunately also one of the most endangered mammals on Earth. This is in part to theirunique pack structure, where only ten percent of female wild dogs will mother pups. If a youngfemale wild dog wants to inhabit the role of a mother within a pack, they must disperse and finda new pack. More than half die while searching. This is the story of three who survived: The three travelers. In October 2021, three sisters of the Luamfwa African wild dog pack abandoned their pack. Atthree years old, if they did not seek a new pack, they would live as subordinates, without pups, for the remainder of their lives. The sisters were tracked by radio collar by researchers atMontana State University. These sisters traveled more than 1,300 miles, including multiple crossings of the Luangwa River, home to one of Africa’s largest crocodile populations; entering the Great Rift Valley, where theycrossed paths with several other packs, unsuccessfully; and even crossed the Great East Roadnear Lusaka, the primary route of travel between the capital cities of Zambia and Malawi. As ofthe story’s publishing, the three sisters were still roaming in search of a new pack.Migration is fascinating, but when the journey greatly surpasses the expectation, it’s difficult tofind incredible inspiration.Recording available here

Flute Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1090022 Composed by Martin J. Van Klompenberg. Classical,Contest,Festival. Individual part. 12 pages. Martin J. Van Klompenberg #694220. Struggling to find a jumping off point, I turned to the internet in hopes for a spark, and instead ended up on Reddit looking at the daily viral internet. For unknown reasons, this was the inspiration I needed, and I turned to old school memes, and decided to write a collection of short character pieces based on the origin of some of my favorites. Success Kid is based upon the internet’s favorite fist-pumping toddler. I imagined my nephew, Georgie when he was three, and once stayed in continuous movement for nearly ten hours. I was exhausted watching him, and his frenetic energy is the driving inspiration. The performer is instructed to play this just “within control,†meaning that one click faster on the metronome could bring it to a crashing halt. Annoyed Picard is based upon a single screenshot of the syndicated classic Star Trek: The Next Generation. Although this meme is shows frustration, the shot in questions is actually famed Shakespearean actor, Patrick Stewart, quoting Shakespeare in a vain attempt to woo one of his crewmates away from an evil alien species. I thought it only fitting to write a simple melodic melody, fitting for the words of Shakespeare, that slowly morphs into an exciting sci-fi riff. This is fine is based on the single panel that is synonymous with the worst possible situations. A dog drinks tea in a room slowly filling with flames. The truth is that all isn’t well, and in the final three panels of the comic strip, the room slowly is engulfed in flames and the dog melts. I wanted to show the chaos and destruction of this comic strip by taking the same melody and distorting it past the point of comfort. Of course, the movement has to end with the joke of the meme. (Sing along the words “This is fine.â€) -.

Oboe,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1430123 Composed by Martin J. Van Klompenberg. 21st Century,Classical. Score and part. 44 pages. Martin J. Van Klompenberg #1010798. The Corpse Flower is not only one of the largest free-standing blossoming plants in the world, it also it also highly unique in that it requires 7 – 10 years to bloom for the first time. The plant must go through several germination cycles, moving through a single leaf phase multiple times prior to the first bloom. This work tells the story of a corpse flower, beginning with the initial single leaf. This leaf returns to the corm, the 100-pound bulb from which the plant stems. When the bloom finally arrives, it can be as tall as ten feet tall, but only lasts about 48 hours until it begins to wilt. The withering can take much longer, as the bloom decays and the single leaf stage begins anew.I had the good fortune to get to see a corpse flower in full bloom in the fall of 2020 (The cover art was taken from this flower), and the opportunity to see this marvel in person was the primary motivation behind writing this work. This work was made possible by the following consortium of musicians:Erin Webber, The University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio, TexasStephanie Carlson, Murray State University, Murray, KentuckyAmy Collins, The University of South Florida, Tampa, FloridaHeather Killmeyer, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TennesseeTheo-Hans Kuijvenhoven, Ridderkerk, NetherlandsKelly McElrath Vaneman, Converse College, Spartanburg, SC

Woodwind Ensemble Bassoon - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1145699 Composed by Martin J. Van Klompenberg. Chamber,Classical. 28 pages. Martin J. Van Klompenberg #745925. Published by Martin J. Van Klompenberg (A0.1145699). Apex Predator began life as all pieces do: With a small child who loves dinosaurs. During a video chat with my nephew, Georgie, he very excitedly told me of the Titanboa, the largest snake that ever existed. Having never heard of this monstrous beast, I took to the internet, and after falling into a wormhole, stumbled upon an article on apex predators. When one thinks of apex predators, the top link in the food chain, the usual thought goes to lions, tigers and bears, however, depending on the biome, apex predators come in all sorts of species, sizes, speeds and colors. This disparity is what I hoped to explore. The Bengal Tiger, the well-known hunter, stalking and pouncing its prey; the alligator snapping turtle, wading in its muddy home, waiting for a chance to strike; the majestic orca, king of the oceans; the golden eagle, with its brilliant wingspan; and the Komodo dragon, the largest lizard on earth, with its poisonous bite and shockingly fast speed. This piece was originally published for bass clarinet and bassoon.Recording available on Soundcloud

Nothing says bassoon like parkour. (Obviously, this is not true in any sense.)The sport of Parkour, or free running, gained popularity in the first decade of the 21st Century. The basic concept is move from Point A to Point B in the flashiest fashion as possible. Large leaps, flips, kicks in every step. The goal of this short exciting work is to show the climbing and leaping and energy of the physical art form.

Bassoon,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1298041 Composed by Martin J. Van Klompenberg. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical. Score and part. 36 pages. Martin J. Van Klompenberg #887947. Published by Martin J. Van Klompenberg (A0.1298041). Prior to the 1990s, there was no unified theory on what caused the extinction of thedinosaurs. Could it have been changes in the weather? Disease? Geologicalchange? Then came Dr. Walter Alvarez! Dr. Alvarez discovered a thin layer of themineral iridium found in sedimentary rocks that were roughly 65 million years old.Knowing that iridium only comes from a meteor, he set out to find the source, acrater in the Yucatán peninsula of Mexico called Chicxulub. In 1991, Dr. Alvarezwrote a book called T.Rex and the Crater of Doom, describing the scientificjourney to most widely accepted theory about the demise of the dinosaurs. The Crater of Doom is inspired by this text. Although we think of the demise of thedinosaurs as a singular event (In a geological sense, this is sort of true.), it reallyoccurred over thousands, and perhaps, millions of years. I wanted this piece todepict these events. In four movements, played without a break, one can hear leadup to the initial impact of the meteor strike, its aftermath, a lonely hunt by one ofthe last survivors, and the sunset of the dinosaur era.
