Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David Woodcock. Folk,Instructional,Traditional. 35 pages. David Woodcock #977478. Published by David Woodcock (A0.1394022).

This is an arrangement of the famous melody, scored for flexible ensemble in E flat. It is also available in F. This series has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of the ever-changing ensemble combinations that primary and secondary schools and other instrumental ensembles face.  Because certain instruments are more comfortable in playing in certain keys, each work will be offered in two keys. This should allow for the music director to choose the key most suitable for the instrumental combination. Each piece consists of five core instrumental parts: 2 treble, 1 alto, tenor and bass. All parts will have a number of transpositions suitable for the instruments that are capable of playing those parts, eg, Part 2 will have parts for violin, B flat clarinet and trumpet, and E flat alto sax.  This will save music directors' time in having to write out additional parts. Optional parts are included for tuned and untuned percussion, guitar (chords) and bass guitar (notation and TAB), a keyboard part appropriate to the difficulty level, and a rehearsal piano part which is a fuller realisation of the piece and could be played by a more advanced student or the music director. If the numbers of players on each part allows, the music director can feel free to 'solo' instruments and vary the orchestration, especially on repeats, to create variety in instrumental colour.

Composed by Scott Camp. Concert,Instructional,Standards. Score. 2 pages. Scott Camp #3142419. Published by Scott Camp (A0.553055).

If you like Lady Allyson's Minuet from Robert Vandall's remarkable Book One of Celebrated Solos, I hope you will enjoy teaching and playing this piece.

Mr. Vandall's love for his own students is manifest in his recognition that new pieces needed to be created for contemporary students.  His students, like most others, were starved for something new and fresh.  Mr. Vandall's compositions were a gift to them, and also to us!

My compositions for Elementary and Intermediate piano students build on the ideas of composers including Robert Vandall, Catherine Rollin, Martha Mier, Dennis Alexander, E. L. Lancaster, and others.

My unique presentation continues the spirit of Robert Vandall in an important way:  not only are the sounds new for today's students, the means of communcation has also been updated to meet the needs of today's students.  Having all of the fundamental technique on the page in terms understandable to elementary piano students enables students to spend more time playing music rather than figuring out how to play music.

I know full well the consequences of this approach:  weaker reading in the short term, which is more than compensated for by correct (and more advanced) technique and ability to play more, and more interesting, music.

The approach I have chosen restores playing music on the piano as the primary focus of the piano student/teacher relationship.  Learning to read music is an important secondary goal, and will, in my experience, stand a better chance of being mastered by students who have played a greater ranger of the compelling music that is available today.

(PS I started putting in all the finger numbers and hand positions for elementary students because I couldn't stand hearing and seeing the incorrect technical solutions these wonderful children came up with on their own.  They deserved better.)

Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (A.S.C.A.P.). Romantic Period. Score and parts. 76 pages. Joel Jacklich #640816. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.1035592).

PROGRAM NOTE: Rosemary - That's for remembrance.... In 1882, Sir Edward Elgar jotted down in his musical notebook a piano piece he titled Douce Pensée (Sweet Thought). There it remained until 1913 when he got it out again, revised it slightly, re-titled it Rosemary - That's for remembrance, and published it for the first time. The title comes from Ophelia's Garland Speech in Shakespeare's Hamlet, where she says, There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember. In 1915, the First World War had been raging in Europe for a year, and many British composers and poets had turned to artistic means to mourn those who died in the trenches of across the Channel. Elgar orchestrated the work at that time. In 1925, London publisher W. Paxton published arrangements by C. Jenkins made for brass and reed band and for military band; however, these are now out of print and no longer available. In the fall of 2015, Mitch Sturman, director of the Wilson Junior High School Warrior Band in El Centro, California, asked me to make an arrangement of Rosemary for the Eighth Annual Concert of Premieres, a series Sturman had begun in 2008, commissioning new works by known composers, and commissioning new arrangements of pieces he felt were worthy works in the public domain that were no longer in print and/or were written for ensembles containing instruments no longer part of the standard modern band or orchestra. INSTRUMENTATION: Flute I (4), Flute II (4), Oboe (1), Clarinet I (4), Clarinet II (4), Clarinet III (4), Bass Clarinet (1), Bassoon (1), Alto Saxophone (4), Tenor Saxophone (2), Baritone Saxophone (1); Trumpet I (3), Trumpet II (3), French Horn (2), Baritone Horn T.C. (2), Baritone Horn B.C. (2), Trombone (6), Tuba (2); Timpani [F2, B-flat 2] (1), Snare Drum (1),Triange (1), Suspended Cymbal (1), Bass Drum (1), Glockenspiel (1). Joel Jacklich May 21, 2015 El Centro, California.
