Choral Choir,Choral (SAB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1127914 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Philip Le Bas. Christian,Christmas,Easter,Sacred. 57 pages. Philip Le Bas #728523. Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1127914). A new setting by Philip Le Bas of the ancient carol The Seven Joys of Mary (or Joys Seven, or a variety of other possible titles.) This version includes the optional flute and B flat clarinet parts. Since medieval times the number of Joys of Mary has varied between five, seven, ten and twelve, but the the current number of seven has become popular, especially since the basic harmonization of R.R. Terry published in 1833 and the contemporary version for 8-part choir by Stephen Cleobury in the OUP's Carols for Choirs series. (A history of the carol can be found in the New Oxford Book of Carols, edited by H Keyte and A Parrott, p.462f.) The version presented here is kept relatively simple to perform, being scored only for three-part choir (SABar - soprano, alto, baritone) and piano, but with plenty of interest including changes in voicing, changes of rhythm (especially verse 6) and two key changes. The arranger hopes performers and listeners will find it energetic and fun! It should certainly be sung in that spirit! Although often associated with Christmas, it could in fact be performed in any season, including Easter, referring as it does to the whole life, death and resurrection of Christ.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.854317 Composed by Melanie B. Guerin. Contemporary,Folk,Standards. Octavo. 8 pages. Melanie B Guerin #3445159. Published by Melanie B Guerin (A0.854317). This haunting piece for SSA women's choir tells the tale of an important but relatively unknown figure from history, amateur paleontologist Mary Anning, whose groundbreaking fossil discoveries on the coast of England contributed to our understanding of prehistoric life and evolution.Lulling 6/6 rhythms conjure the ebb and flow of the tide along Lyme Regis, where Mary Anning found and sold her fossils. The lyrics reference the tongue twister She sells sea shells by the sea shore, which some claim was inspired by Anning, as well as descriptions of the sea dragon (plesiosaur) that she discovered. After noting that Anning is now buried in the same lias clay that once held her greatest discoveries, the music fades into the sounds of the waves rolling onto shore.Difficulty: Medium EasyOptional part also available for alto saxophone. .

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.970731 Composed by Mike Strand. Contemporary,Jazz,World. Score and parts. 36 pages. Michael M. Strand #4837117. Published by Michael M. Strand (A0.970731). By Mike Strand, ASCAP I wrote this String Quartet in a composition class at the College of William and Mary in 2010.  It is brief and rich with variety, and it involves a technique of mine called fracturing (see note* below).  This causes the dissonance you'll hear in parts of this work.On one occasion, when I felt stressed, I enjoyed listening to Morton Feldman's String Quartet II (1983), which lasts about 6 hours.  This quiet but lovely music soothed and pacified me.  On the other hand, if you want something to energize and alert you in less than 11 minutes, this quartet may be for you --  whenever you acquire a recording of it by some lucky quartet ensemble.  Have a cup of coffee with it, for insurance! In the meantime, enjoy the audio sample, Movement I of my quartet.  This alone may suffice to get you going, in only two and a half minutes. String Quartet - William and Mary:   Four movements, total time 10:45: I. Allegro moderato (2:32) A tango-like dance movement: Preface, Introduction, A, B, A’, C, Coda (two variations). II. Lento (2:44) Counting to twenty in 5-4, 4-4, and 12-8 time. 5-4 time predominates (five groups of four measures each), then 4-4 (two groups of five measures each) and 12-8 (one group of five measures). Throughout there are 72 counts per minute, with quarter notes counted in the 5-4 and 4-4 time signatures, and with dotted quarter notes counted in the 12-8 time signature. The five measures of 12-8 also introduce the theme for movement III.Fun with three different time signatures! III. Allegro (2:11) Variations on a Scottish-like folk tune and fragments of it. One variation is an example of tonal pointillism. The closing measures are an extended coda based on a transformed version of the original tune. IV. Swing (3:18) West Coast swing tempo for the Introduction and Part A; triple swing tempo for Part B.  Note* on the fracturing technique This is my method to produce systematically new types of dissonance and corresponding modifications and resolutions. Fracturing consists of changing pitches in a melody or chord as follows: (a) Decide on the root note position within the staff or line of music. (b) Represent the applicable chord in half-step notation, with the root given the value 0. (c) Alternatively subtract and add a prescribed number of half steps from, and to, each successive number in the annotated chord (except for the root). (d) Use the new fractured annotation to define the new pitches. The actual or implied root of the chord (tonal center) remains unchanged. The resulting new chord or melody is thus related or resolvable to the parent tonal harmony or chord. Fracturing appears mainly in the first and third movements, with spare use in the second and fourth movements.

The resulting performance together sounds like a massive orchestra. The original tempo is 125 bpm. However, using technological resources, the teacher can decrease or increase the bpm of the song if they understand how to do so.

Choir Sacred Instrumental Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: JX.00-35059 Composed by Sheldon Curry. This edition: InstruPax. Choral (Sacred); Choral Worship Cantata; Larger Works; Performance Music Ensemble; Worship Resources. Christmas; Sacred; Winter. Part(s). 62 pages. Jubilate Music Group - Digital #00-35059. Published by Jubilate Music Group - Digital (JX.00-35059). English.Looking for something out of the ordinary for Advent/Christmas? Imagine Mary, the mother of Jesus, as a young Kentucky woman singing her praise song to God (Magnificat) in an Appalachian setting. Then picture Simeon as an elderly West Virginia coal miner/preacher voicing his grateful joy (Nunc Dimittis) at viewing the baby boy Jesus in the temple -- an event that he has waited for his whole life. Translate the traditional Latin of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis into present-day language. Both these events combine to form the refreshingly different extended anthem Mary & Simeon. Written in a natural, unpretentious style for violin (fiddle), cello, and bluegrass instruments, this one-of-a-kind setting of time-honored words promises to bring unexpected joy to worship during this holy season. It includes the congregation in a Gloria that ends both pieces. Extensive performance notes are included in the anthem. Use the anthems together in one service, as part of an Appalachian-themed Advent service, or use them separately on their individual liturgical special days. Whatever use you make of them, these memorable, worshipful offerings surprise and energize worship for your choir and congregation. InstruPax includes parts for piano, bass, acoustic guitars (and optional mandolin), fiddle (violin), cello, and optional drums.
